  • School Building - Karnes City TX
    The Works Progress Administration built the Karnes City School Building in 1938-1940. On the SE corner of E Mayfield St & N Browne St is a beige brick, one-story building. It is surrounded by new buildings and it is part of Roger E. Sides Elementary School. It is unclear if the building is still used for instruction. It has a metal plaque to the right of the front door that reads "Work Projects Administration 1938-1940".
  • Raymond School - Royalston MA
    A school building built on land donated by Mary and Catherine Raymond at the end of Royalston Town Common, Raymond School bears a plaque stating: "Built by Work Projects Administration 1938-1940". The date of the land deed is 8/6/1938; however, town records in 1936, 1937 and 1938 show payments made to the WPA for administrative expenses, supplies and materials, labor, teams and trucks. The town made payments in 1937 for the storage of WPA commodities.
  • City Hall Remodeling - Rockdale TX
    Built in 1896, the Rockdale City Hall was remodeled by the Work Projects Administration (WPA) in 1940. The structure currently houses Rockdale Police Department. WPA Project #12892 Milam County. WPA crews "remodeled building roof, plastered partitions, installed hardwood floors, and stuccoed outside." Historical Marker: Altered in the 1930s resulting in the loss of a tall bell tower.
  • Penelope Rural High School, Dist. 8 - Penelope TX
    The Works Progress Administration built the Penelope Rural High School, School Dist. 8. The one-story brick building bearing white cement decorations at the top was completed in 1940. It houses eight classrooms, a gym-auditorium, offices, storerooms, and a locker room.
  • Blanco High School - Blanco TX
    The National Youth Administration built the Blanco High School in 1940. Austin American Statesman Newspaper, December 19, 1940: "Blanco lays cornerstone for new building, built by National Youth Administration workers. The new high school started a year ago, is built of native white limestone. It contains eight class rooms and a large auditorium, the latter section being the only part not yet completed. More than 100 Blanco County boys have received work experience on the building. Jesse Kellam, state NYA head, was the speaker at cornerstone laying ceremonies Wednesday afternoon."
  • School Gymnasium - Wortham TX
    The Works Progress Administration built a school gymnasium in Wortham, Freestone County. The structure has a reinforced concrete foundation, rock walls, concrete beams, built-up roof, and steel trusses. The interior floor finish is wood floor on concrete sub-floor. The official project number is 665-662-619.
  • E Magnolia St. Sidewalks - Angleton TX
    The Works Progress Administration built sidewalks on E Magnolia St. in Angleton. This researcher found a mark in a section of sidewalk at Magnolia and Chenango streets, one block from the Brazoria County Courthouse. A 1940 Galveston Newspaper article tells of sidewalk work being done in Alvin, which is also in Brazoria County, so the work was likely completed in this same time period.
  • Grammar School - Itta Bena MS
    The Itta Bena Grammar School is a one-story brick, five course common bond building in a standard T-shape constructed 1940 by the National Youth Administration, designed by architect Robert James Moor. It remains in use as of 2018. Itta Bena citizens met in May 1939 to discuss the proposed new elementary school building, and by September, the old building was facing demolition. The National Youth Administration covered the cost of labor for the school building.   • Lake Sealy - Santa Anna TX
    The Works Progress Administration (WPA) built Lake Sealy in 1940 under official project number 665-66-2-391. The WPA constructed a 750 foot earthen dam to impound the lake, covering the lakeside of the dam with riprap and sodding the back side. The lake currently provides no water or revenue for the City of Santa Anna which owns it. The lake was used for recreational fishing and then leased to a private landowner.
  • Clifton School (demolished) - Clifton TX
    The Clifton School is an Art Deco style building constructed in 1940. The structure is brick with pre-cast white stone ornamentation (made on the job site). The entrance has two stories, the second story being reserved for administrative space. Two one-story wings extend from the entrance. The school had a total of 32 rooms (eighteen of which were classrooms) and had wood floors. The interior cafeteria food service was part of the WPA lunch project. The school was demolished in 2019.
