    The Works Progress Administration (WPA) built the Jackson School in Pauls Valley OK. Contributor note: "Jackson Elementary School is located at 1015 S. Walnut and is an active elementary school today. It has an Art Deco theme, which was rare for the architect Albert S. Ross. The school is a one story buff brick building constructed in an L-shape, with a flat roof. Later additions to the school have been built at each end, to closely resemble the original.     Jefferson Elementary school is one of three built by the WPA. Contributor note: "Jefferson Elementary School is located at 500 E. Garvin at the corner of S. Cherry Street. This is a one-story L-shaped school with a flat roof, capped with Spanish tile. Red metal siding has been added to the upper walls, with a shallow gable roof. The windows are three-pane set in singles, doubles and triples. On the west side of the school, there are two brick bay window units with tile roofs.     The Lee School is one of three schools built by the Works Progress Administration in Pauls Valley between 1939 and 1940. Contributor Note: "Lee Elementary School is located at 300 W.     The Works Progress Administration built sidewalks on Begier Avenue in San Leandro CA. Contributor note: "Sidewalk stamp is in front of the garage door on Begier Avenue. around the corner from the house connected to it at 799 St Marys Avenue. The garage is across the street from 1445 Begier Avenue between St Marys Avenue and Glen Drive in San Leandro."

  • Post Office - Gladewater TX
    The house appropriations committee, Washington, approved treasury and post office building projects including Gladewater in Feb. 1939. Pictured here is a preliminary study of Gladewater's new post office, for which $150,000 was appropriated and on which construction bids already have been received. The one story structure will be of modern construction, brick exterior walls and a pitched Spanish tile roof, will measure 84 feet across the front and extend to a depth of 60 feet.   • Point Richmond Rock Walls - Richmond CA
    The Works Progress Administration (WPA) built rock retaining walls in Point Richmond, a neighborhood of Richmond CA.   The most notable wall is found at 220 Bishop Avenue and was built in 1940. It is six feet high and runs the length of the property, about 40 feet.  This wall is constructed of finely-cut, multi-colored stone, which the property owner purchased and gave to the WPA workers to use. Another wall on Bishop Alley is from the same time period.  It consists of three levels: dark stone along the base, then solid gray concrete, and finally colored stone set in concrete....

    In 1939-1940, the City of Yuma secured New Deal funding through the National Youth Administration to put unemployed youth to work. The City of Yuma ran the former Yuma Territorial Prison as a museum from 1940-1961.
  • Crescent Beach Stairs - Algoma WI
    The WPA constructed stairs at the south end of Crescent Beach. The stairs display "19 WPA 39" on the top step and bottom slab along with 48 star stone mosaic U.S. flags. The stairs are edged with field stone. Fossils are mounted on the entrance pillars. The stairs begin at the top of a grassy bluff and end in a cedar lined path that leads to the sandy shore of Lake Michigan.
