The Leon County Health Unit was completed in 1940 as a $40,000 project jointly funded by Leon County, the City of Tallahassee, and the Works Progress Administration (WPA). It was the first permanent home for the Leon County Health Unit, which was the oldest in the state and the first specially designed health unit built as a county WPA project in the state of Florida. A Work Progress Administration marker is encased in a brick monument on the grounds of Southside Elementary School, on the West Tulsa Street (north) side of the school property. According to the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, the WPA constructed a high school here in 1940. It remained on this property until 1994, when it was demolished to make way for the construction of the current elementary school. The bricks of the monument are actual bricks from the old WPA school, and the concrete WPA stone is the original cornerstone from the building.

In 1940 the Federal Works Progress Administration (WPA) supported the construction of Earlsboro High School in Oklahoma. According to the Waymarking site for this building, the town of Earlsboro had a population of 486 in 1940. Without the resources provided by the WPA, the town would not have been able to afford to build the school at the time. The Works Progress Administration built the Glouster Stadium for Trimble High School in 1940. According to the Athens Messenger, as of August 2017, the Glouster Stadium was deemed structurally unsafe and closed. The future of the stadium is uncertain, but the Trimble Facilities Improvement Committee is exploring fundraising efforts in an attempt to retrofit and save the structure.

In 1937 the Seattle City Council passed an ordinance authorizing work to begin on reconstructing the bridge. The job took a year and a half and replaced the timber approaches with approaches of concrete and steel that featured ornamental lighting. The cost was $800,000, funded 45 percent by the federal Depression-era Works Progress Administration (WPA) and the remainder by Seattle's share of the state gasoline tax. The work closed the roadway for the year and a half of construction. For the duration, people crossing the ship canal were obliged to drive over the Fremont Bridge or the Aurora Bridge.
