    The Garfield Playground was one of a limited number of Seattle park facilities to receive upgrades through the New Deal's Civil Works Administration (CWA) program. The main CWA project at the playground involved the construction of a retaining wall along the western edge of the property. CWA laborers began work on the $12,000 project in 1933 and completed it the following year. Several years later, funding from the Works Project Administration (WPA) allowed the Park Department to proceed with additional improvements to the playground.   • Georgetown Playground Improvements - Seattle WA
    With the help of Works Progress Administration (WPA) labor, the Seattle Park Department made improvements to the Georgetown Playground at South Homer Street and Corson Avenue. In 1936, WPA workers built a reinforced concrete wading pool along the eastern edge of the playground. According to Park Department records, “This pool was made so that the water can be maintained at two different depths; one at 18 inches for wading and the other at 30 inches so the children can learn to swim.” The Park Department provided $1,384 worth of materials for the pool and the WPA provided the paid labor....
  • Pioneer Hall - Anson TX
    Located in Anson's City Park, construction on Pioneer Hall began in 1938 and was completed in 1940. The Hall is 71’ wide and 121’ long with a “barrel” roof concealed by stone façade on its front side. The exterior is constructed of native stone that was provided by Works Project Administration (WPA) workers. In 1885, M. G. Rhodes hosted a wedding party and dance at his Star Hotel in Anson.   • North Carolina State University: Turlington Residence Hall - Raleigh NC
    The Public Works Administration built the “C” Dormitory at North Carolina State College in Raleigh, North Carolina. Today the dormitory is still in service under the name Turlington Residence Hall. Construction of new dormitory building for 400 students: brick load-bearing exterior walls, steel column with bar joist and concrete slab floor construction, and steel roof trusses with Nailcrete slab and slate shingle roof. The interior finish was plaster with wood trim and Bruce random length flooring.
  • Gymnasium - Washington AR
    After the county seat was moved from Washington, Arkansas to Hope, Arkansas, the Washington Public School moved into the empty 1874 Hempstead County Courthouse in Washington. With assistance from the Works Progress Administration, a gym was erected next door in 1940 to serve the school. The gym currently is used as an event venue for public functions.

    The Public Works Administration funded the construction of a hospital building for the Denver Hospital in Denver CO. The new building was named Samuel D. Nichols and was completed circa 1940. The current location and condition of this facility are unknown to the Living New Deal.

  • Oshkosh Fire Station #6 - Oshkosh WI
    Fire Station #6 built was built with Works Progress Administration (WPA) funds by the City of Oshkosh. A WPA funded project to dismantle the old Winnebago County Courthouse and old Oshkosh Post Office buildings were done in 1939. Materials from those buildings were recycled and used in other building projects, including this fire station.
  • Clinton Fairgrounds: Livestock Exhibit Building - Clinton OK
    The Works Progress Administration built the Livestock Exhibit Building at the Clinton Fairgrounds in Clinton OK. Contributor Note: "This is a one-story brick livestock building, with a shallow gabled roof. The lower 30 inches of the walls are native sandstone, and large sandstone rocks are set into the corners of the building. There are 15 window openings on each side, which are all boarded up, as are vehicle doors and pedestrian doors on the north and south ends. The building is located on North 6th Street.   • Nolan Park - Sweetwater TX
    The National Youth Administration built park facilities in Nolan Park. While I didn't find the "Community House" pictured I found multiple other facilities that appear to be NYA construction. Picnic Tables, Small Building, Pavilion, possible water feature, and a bridge. A newspaper Article from 1940 says in part: "Construction of a shelter house in city park at Sweetwater complete with picnic tables and benches, restrooms and tool shed. Federal funds were $1,936.94 and $862.78 for sponsors. "
