  • Atascadero Lake Park Improvements - Atascadero CA
    In 1937, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) carried out improvements on Atascadero Lake Park.  WPA project cards indicate the following work: "Improve the recreational area at Atascadero Lake near Atascadero, San Luis Obispo Co., by improving earthen dam, and performing other incidental work, to provide additional parking spaces." We cannot ascertain what was done to the dam and the parking lots have been greatly enlarged since the 1930s.  Nevertheless, there are stone rings around trees, stone benches along the lake shore and stone drinking fountains that are characteristic of the rustic style used by WPA relief workers.  Further confirmation is needed.   • School Improvements - Scott City KS
    The National Youth Administration completed improvements for the school building in Scott City, Kansas. Pictured is a postcard postmarked 1946, showing a sign in front of the building that reads "Kansas NYA Project."
  • American Fork School Improvements - American Fork UT
    The Works Progress Administration built tennis courts and completed landscaping at the American School in American Fork, Alpine School District. Docket # 2799-R (Utah).
  • National Training School for Boys (Former): Catholic Chapel Improvements - Washington DC
    The Works Progress Administration improved the Catholic chapel at the National Training School for Boys in the Fort Lincoln area. The work was performed circa 1937, and consisted of landscaping, cleaning, and installing a new roof. The school was closed in 1968 and the fate of the facilities is unknown.

    The Works Progress Administration built a road leading to the annex facilities at the National Training School for Boys in Washington DC, circa 1937.

    The Works Progress Administration built several agricultural buildings, which included a chicken farm and hennery, at the National Training School for Boys in Washington DC, circa 1937.
  • Potomac River Emergency Flood Levee - Washington DC
    In 1936, relief workers from the Works Progress Administration (WPA) built emergency flood levees to stop the overflow of the Potomac River. The photographs show WPA crews erecting the levees in the vicinity of the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. 
  • E Street NW Sewer - Washington DC
    The Works Progress Administration (WPA) built sewer lines in front of the Washington Auditorium in Washington DC. Pictured are work crews building the sewer lines in 1936. The Washington Auditorium, built in the 1920s and demolished in 1964, was located on E Street NW.  The site is now an extension of Rawlins Park. Washington Auditorium hosted the inaugural ball of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933 and the Federal Emergency Relief Administration leased the entire building in 1935 – which may be why a new sewer was put in place in front.  It subsequently held the US Geological Survey and other federal offices.

    The Works Progress Administration built the school in St. Johns, Apache County. The exact location and condition of this facility is unknown to the Living New Deal.
  • Cochise Airport Runway Improvement - Wilcox AZ
    The Works Progress Administration carried out runway improvement work at the airport in the vicinity of Cochise, Douglas County. Project #309, completed circa 1936. The exact location and condition of this facility is unknown to the Living New Deal.
