  • Corlears Hook Park - New York NY
    The CWA constructed this park at Corlears Hook. From a 1934 New York City Parks Department press release: "Facilities: An open shelter is to be erected. There are four handball, four horse-shoe pitching, one volley ball, two basketball and shuffle board courts. This area, which adjoins a lodging house with accommodation for 1800 men, has been planned to provide recreation for the unusually large number of men residing in this particular district." The amphitheater, known as the East River Amphitheater, was built in 1941. At least one of the playgrounds was replaced in 1969.
  • Grove Place Clinic - St. Croix VI
    The CWA began building the Grove Place Clinic on St. Croix. By 1934, the following construction phases had been completed: “Wall foundation complete, floor fillings 2/3 complete and 60 blocks complete”
  • Sidewalks - Burlington VT
    "The 1934 Annual Report of Burlington states that the PWA would be responsible for approximately ten miles of new cement concrete sidewalks; the photograph shows one of the following projects. The project cost a total of $50,340.01; federal covered $23,000 of the construction cost." PWA Project No. 2361
  • Inspection Station - Tecate CA
    The historic U.S. Border Inspection Station (and attendant housing facilities) on State Route 188 (a.k.a. Tecate Rd.) in Tecate, California was built in 1934 with U.S. Treasury Department funds. The facility is in Spanish Colonial Revival style, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).
  • Inspection Station - West Berkshire VT
    The historic U.S. Border Inspection Station (along with an attendant residence building) on State Route 108 in Berkshire, Vermont was built in 1934 with U.S. Treasury Department funds.
  • Estate Whim Homestead Community, Fire Trails - Frederiksted, St. Croix VI
    The CCC built two miles of fire trails around the Estate Whim homestead community, located on St. Croix, near Frederiksted.
  • Paving (Texas A&M) - College Station TX
    Several projects at the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (now Texas A&M University) were undertaken with New Deal assistance. "An extensive paving program was also started with New Deal funds of $10,500." Begun in 1934, this most likely involved the Federal Emergency Relief Administration (F.E.R.A.).
  • Water Tunnels - Denver CO
    In the development of the Denver water supply system, the WPA and PWA helped with construction of tunnels. "1935 — Construction began on Moffat Water Tunnel Diversion Project, which was part of the New Deal’s Public Works Administration program; the Moffat Tunnel was enlarged and partially lined. 1936 — The first delivery of water through the Moffat Water Tunnel took place. This, during the height of the Dust Bowl drought and continuing population explosion."   • Monroe Elementary School - Monroe CT
    Monroe, Connecticut received a school building, which Living New Deal believes to be Monroe Elementary School, as a federal Public Works Administration (P.W.A.)-sponsored project. The P.W.A. supplied a $26,860 grant for the project, whose total cost was $98,402. Construction occurred between Sept. 1934 and Jun. 1935. The facility has since been expanded and also houses district offices. P.W.A. Docket No. CT 1485
  • Canton Intermediate School - Canton CT
    Built as Canton's high school, what is now Canton Intermediate School was constructed as a New Deal project with federal Public Works Administration (P.W.A.) funds. The P.W.A. supplied a $26,860 grant for the project, whose total cost was $98,402. Construction occurred between Sept. 1934 and Apr. 1935. P.W.A. Docket No. CT 4422
