    Hawk’s Nest State Park began as 31 acres bought by the state of West Virginia and is now an 838 acre park southwest of Anstead, Fayette County, West Virginia. The park overlooks the New River along the Midland Trail (US 60). Ten New Deal era resource types are identified in the park including “stone work; water fountains; fireplaces and picnic pads; trails; a culvert; a multi-use building with a museum, observatory, and residence; a concession building; storage building; picnic shelter; and restroom buildings.” The CCC operated two camps in Hawk’s nest.   • Disposal Plant - Battle Creek MI
    Battle Creek, Michigan received a water disposal facility as part of a large Public Works Administration (P.W.A.) project. The P.W.A. supplied a $368,000 loan and $144,832 grant for the project, whose total cost was $517,726. Construction occurred between 1934 and 1936.   • Scout Barracks - Mackinac Island MI
    Located north of Fort Mackinac and at the east end of the Parade Ground, the historic Scout Barracks building was constructed by the Mackinac Island Civilian Conservation Corps unit in 1934.
  • Wawona Ranger Station Residences - Yosemite National Park CA
    The New Deal made possible the construction of a ranger station in the Wawona area, which was added to Yosemite National Park in 1932.  The ranger station complex includes two ranger residences and accompanying garages.  These buildings still exist, but are now used for different purposes. According to the Superintendent's Monthly Report of December 1934, the Public Works Administration (PWA) provided the funding to the National Park Service (NPS) for the ranger station complex (Broesamle 2022). This contradicts the 2012 NPS report on design in the park, which attributes the buildings to the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) (see quote below).  The latter...

    The northbound I-74 bridge, a.k.a. Iowa-Illinois Memorial Bridge, was constructed as a Public Works Administration (P.W.A.) project. The P.W.A. supplied a $1,124,000 loan and $403,400 grant for the project, whose total cost was $1,471,244. Construction occurred between June 1934 and November 1936.     The historic post office building in Moline, Illinois was constructed in 1934 with federal Treasury Department funds. The building, which houses an example of New Deal artwork, is still in service.
  • Swimming Pool - Moorhead MS
    The swimming pool was Mississippi project 6871 approved on June 20, 1934. A $4,000 loan and a $1, 783 grant was provided by the Public Works Administration toward the estimated total cost of $6,500. The bids were advertised on August 19, the contract was awarded on September 27, and construction started on October 1. The pool was completed on December 13, 1934 for a total cost of $6,995. According to the Enterprise-Tocsin ("Park renovation starts Saturday"), the swimming pool was located at the park on Brookside Avenue.
