  • Mangas Lookout - Gila National Forest NM
    The historic Mangas fire lookout tower was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1934. NRHP nomination form: "Located on the Quemado Ranger District, this lookout tower was erected in 1934. It is an Aermotor MC-E4, 30 ft high steel tower with a 14 ft by 14 ft steel cab. The wood frame cabin was erected in 1934. The lookout tower and cabin show few modifications over time and retain much of their integrity of original design, construction, workmanship, materials, setting, location and association. The tower and cabin are over 50 years old and are recommended for National Register eligibility....
  • Richmond County Administration Building (old Federal Building) - Rockingham NC
    The Treasury Department funded the construction of the U. S. Post Office and Federal Building. The Art Deco structure was built in 1935 at the cost of more than $225,000. The architect of record was Louis A. Simon of the Public Works Branch, Procurement Division of the United States Treasury. The contractor of record was Farnell A. Blaire. Inaugurated in 1937, the building houses an example of New Deal artwork. The structure's linear ornamentation is typical of the Art Deco style of that era.   • Bailey Dam - Montpelier VT
    The Winooski River Local Protection Project in Vermont, a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) undertaking, entailed "replacing an old timber dam at Montpelier by a small concrete dam (now called Bailey Dam) with tainter gates." The project is located on the Winooski River west of Main Street.  It was built sometime between 1934 and 1938.
  • Simonds Park Improvements - Burlington MA
    Among other work at Simonds Park, in Burlington, Mass., the F.E.R.A contributed to the construction of tennis courts in 1934. The foundation of the tennis courts was broken stone, acquired from the "blasting and moving of a great quantity of ledge" while expanding the park's ball field. The W.P.A. continued work at the site.

    The PWA provided funding for an extension of the waterworks in the town of Canadian, TX.The P.W.A. provided a $17,100 loan and $6,900 grant for the project, whose total cost was $24,160. Work was undertaken in 1934. "J. H. Gehbauer, the city's engineer for the project, said the last pipe connection was made Tuesday . The new 800-gallon-a-minute pump was expected to be tried out Wednesday.
