Though Central Park was created in the 19th century by Olmsted and Vaux, the New Deal helped the Parks Department carry out massive improvements to the park from 1934 to 1938. Work relief funds and labor were used to construct 4 1/2 miles of bridle paths in the park: one circling the Reservoir, one around the North Meadow and one at the southern end of the park.   (www.kermitproject.org)

Though Central Park was originally established in the 1850s, New Deal workers carried out massive improvements to the park from 1934 to 1938. Work included the creation of the park's Great Lawn. The site was formerly the Lower Reservoir, which had recently been drained only to become a 'Hooverville' of people left unemployed and homeless by the Great Depression. With the help of CWA funding and labor in 1934 and most likely further WPA aid in 1935, the Parks Department had transformed the area into today's Great Lawn by 1936, featuring 8 ball fields and a promenade around the perimeter.   (www.kermitproject.org)

In 1934 E.R.A. labor drained and cleaned Barre's Bolster Reservoir.

In 1934 the Emergency Relief Administration (E.R.A.) conducted the following improvement work along a part of South Main St. in the City of Barre: The street was widened, curbings and gutters built, gravel sidewalks constructed and all banks carefully were carefully sloped and sodded. This is perhaps the best finished road work in the City. The W.P.A. removed disused street car rails in 1939.

Barre relied heavily on federal funds and labor during the Great Depression to improve and develop its water distribution system. The city's annual reports attest that work began under the Emergency Relief Administration (E.R.A.) and persisted several years with the Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.). As part of these efforts, larger water mains were installed under many roads; older mains were dug up, relaid, and lowered further underground to prevent winter freezing; and the network was generally expanded.

The municipal park at the end of Mill Street, alongside Parkside Terrace, in Barre, Vermont, was developed and improved with the assistance of federal funds and labor in 1934. According to a town report work attributable in part to the Federal/Vermont Emergency Relief Administration included: n addition to the cement pier being built at the swimming pool, the construction of a third tennis court, equipping same, and painting the bath houses. ... rom V. The historic Jay Town Office building in Au Sable Forks was originally one of several similarly designed school buildings built in the area as part of a New Deal project. Their construction was enabled by the federal Public Works Administration (PWA), which provided a $178,140 loan and $56,289 grant, effectively covering the entire $230,491 total project cost.
