Crooked Creek Lake and Dam were created as part of a multi-site flood control program to protect the city of Pittsburgh and Ohio Valley. Work on the project began in 1937 on Crooked Creek near its confluence with the Allegheny River. The earth dam was designed by Captain B.F. Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works funded the construction of the Roscoe School in Sun Valley CA. Plaque Inscription: Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works, Franklin D. Roosevelt, President of the United States, Harold L. Ickes, Administrator of Public Works, 1939. Roscoe School was founded in 1917 to serve the small number of residents in the community of Roscoe. It began as a small one-room schoolhouse on the corner of San Fernando Road and Strathern Street. The structure was rebuilt on its original site and is still known as "The Little Red Schoolhouse." The Public Works Administration (PWA) provided funding for the construction of a new high school in Preston, Idaho in 1939. The school building is a long, two-story structure with two wings flanking a central entrance, and what appears to be a gymnasium and second entry at the east end. The design is Brick Moderne with bas-relief columns capped by white stone and a slightly projecting central entrance with modest carved stone decorations and the date 1939 above the doorway. The school is in good condition and still in use.

The Public Works Administration (PWA) funded the construction of a new courthouse for Franklin County in Preston, Idaho, in 1939. The Franklin County Courthouse is a fine example of late Moderne architecture, a clean white cube with bas-relief columns and otherwise minimal exterior decoration.

The Public Works Administration (PWA) financed the construction of the Downey Grade School in 1939. The school building is a long, single-story, brick Moderne (Art Deco) structure. The former school is now a private assisted living facility called "Whispering Pines".  

Washington School was built with the funding of the federal Public Works Administration (PWA). The Art Moderne concrete school built to replace the Longfellow and Frances Willard schools. It was in use until 2011. Notable features include murals depicting Longfellow and Willard and a basement bicycle garage.

The Public Works Administration (PWA) provided funding for a new high school for Beaverhead County schools in Dillon, Montana, constructed in 1939. The PWA had become a part of the new Federal Works Agency that year.. The design of the two-story school is a very striking Moderne, painted in a desert beige with white bas-relief columns. The entrance portions for the classrooms and the auditorium project outward slightly, while the doorways are recessed. There are glass-block windows over the auditorium entrance. The school is still in use.

The Works Progress Administration and the Federal Works Agency funded and built the South American Tropical Rainforest and Aviary at the San Francisco Zoo in 1940. The structure was originally an aquatic birdhouse. Now it serves as an aviary.  

The Public Works Administration (PWA) funded roughly half the cost of the construction of a new courthouse for Cassia County, in Burley, Idaho. A grant of $53,000 was offered to the county in 1938 and constrution began that year. The building, which included a jail, was completed in 1939 – as proudly carved above the entrance.
