A new $17,800 school building at Olfen, Runnels county, was dedicated 3/26/39. The modern six- room structure was completed March 22. Attending the dedication was E. C. Grindstaff, county school superintendent; John C. Becker, architect who designed the building; the Rev. O. A. Boockman, Catholic priest at Olfen; Hugh Horn, of the Abilene Construction company, general contractors, and Glenn A. Rector, PWA engineer and inspector. The building was made possible by a 55 per cent PWA grant.

The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was present in Death Valley National Monument  from 1933 to 1942.  CCC 'boys' built erected dozens of buildings in the monument, including administrative, residential, maintenance and visitor facilities.  One important building is the Emigrant Junction ranger station, built in 1942 as one of the CCC's last projects in the monument.   The Emigrant Junction station, at the junction of the Towne Pass and Emigrant Pass roads, was the principal western entry point to Death Valley for decades.  The stone building seen here replaced a flimsier structure built in 1935.  It was  heavily modified in 1963, then restored...

The WPA constructed stairs at the south end of Crescent Beach. The stairs display "19 WPA 39" on the top step and bottom slab along with 48 star stone mosaic U.S. flags. The stairs are edged with field stone. Fossils are mounted on the entrance pillars. The stairs begin at the top of a grassy bluff and end in a cedar lined path that leads to the sandy shore of Lake Michigan.

The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was present in Death Valley National Monument  from 1933 to 1942.  Among their many projects in the monument, the CCC 'boys' created five campgrounds and picnic areas. The Sheboygan Armory and Auditorium was built in 1941 by the New Deal's Works Progress Administration (WPA). The Supervising Architect was Edgar Stubenrauch, based in Sheboygan. Architectural Features: The two-story structure is representative of the Streamline Moderne/WPA Moderne style. The façade construction consists of precast concrete panels decorated with Art Deco motifs. Typical of the WPA Moderne style, the architectural ornamentation is minimal. Ornamented precast panels are placed primarily at the window headers and the cornice. The structure occupies a site located in the vicinity of Lake Michigan. The University of Mississippi made application to the Public Works Administration September 7, 1935 for grants to help construct five fraternity houses and two sorority houses. Funds in the amount of $2,000 for each structure were requested from PWA, and the university would fund the remaining $3,000 per building.The university requested $45,454 for fraternity and sorority houses according to a separate Clarion-Ledger article.Architects began drawing up plans for the first of ten sorority and fraternity houses, and the establishment of “fraternity row” after being notified funds had been obtained reported architect E. The Summit Building at the peak of Mount Diablo was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1939-42.  It is a beautiful example of CCC rustic stonework, built for the ages using local sandstone quarried on the mountain. The Summit Building serves as a visitor center, observation platform and museum.  The museum contains displays about the natural history of Mt. Diablo, including a set of paintings of local wildflowers by WPA artists (shown below). The Works Progress Administration built an armory in Yale, OK in 1936. Contributor note: "The Armory in Yale, as with most Oklahoma armories, was constructed by the WPA. This stone armory is located at 200 S. Main, and appears to be either vacant, or perhaps used by the town for storage. The armory faces East and has two wooden doors located in a slightly projected fortress-style bay. The tall window units are multi-pane casement. One overhead vehicle door is located at the northeast corner. A cornerstone is located on the northeast corner and reads: 'State Armory Built by Works Progress Administration 1936 W.S. Key State...

The Works Progress Administration built a library in Yale, OK in 1938. Contributor note: "This building screams 'WPA' so we had to climb the stairs and investigate. Sure enough, there was the iconic bronze shield showing WPA 1938 at the top of the stairs. This is a two-story native stone building which faces West onto South "B" Street. Its main entrance faces west at the end of a walkway that has stone side walls. The windows on the ground level are all boarded.
