This Section of Fine Arts tempera-on-canvas mural “Saturday in Enterprise” was painted by Virginia-born artist Paul Arlt for the Enterprise post office in 1941. Arlt received the commission on the basis of an entry in the 48 States Competition, depicting a city scene of downtown Enterprise at the corner of the famous boll weevil monument. The mural now hangs in the Enterprise public library.

These two 12' x 8' tempera fresco murals painted by Frederick Olmsted reside in the front lobby of San Francisco City College's Science Building over the west entrance stairs. Two murals depict students engaged in scientific research. Muted earth tones and small brush strokes represent a range of endeavors in the sciences, such as viewing bacteria through a microscope, conducting field research, and excavating dinosaur remains. A restoration was completed in 2002 by CCSF faculty, staff, students, and an independent conservator, bringing these images close to their original state. This oil-on-campus mural “Texas Longhorn—A Vanishing Breed” was painted by Ila Turner McAfee in 1941 with funding from the Treasury Section of Fine Arts.

Kindred McLeary painted five tempera-on-plaster murals for the Norwalk post office in 1941. The post office was renovated in 1963, leaving three murals "Present Products of South Norwalk;" "Past Products of South Norwalk;" and "Indians Instructing Pioneers in Forest Lore" in what is now the Postmaster's office (not generally accessible to the public). Two other murals—"Old Well," the largest of the original murals, and "Bays and Oyster Fishing"—were destroyed during the renovation.

This marble relief sculpture of an eagle at the front entrance to Norwalk's main post office was created by Gaetano Cecere, a New York artist who studied in Europe and whose work can also be seen in the Post Office Department building in Washington, D.C. (NRHP)

This egg-tempera-on-gesso mural was painted by Marion Gilmore in 1941. From When Tillage Begins: The Stone City Art Colony and School: "Gilmore won the WPA commission to produce a mural for the town of Corning, Iowa. The jury, led by former Stone City faculty member Edward Rowan, demanded that Gilmore's image only contain actual architecture and landmarks in the downtown district. Her mural, 'Band Concert,' won the federal-sponsored Forty-Eight States design competition of 1939 and depicts a summer band concert in a small, Iowa community. The post office contains three tempera murals painted by Archie Musick in 1941, titled "Loading Cattle," "Stockade Builders" and "Moving Westward." "Archie Musick, born in Kirksville, Missouri, was a student of Thomas Hart Benton and of Boardman Robinson. In the Red Cloud murals, his elongated forms in motion echo Benton's style rather than Musick's. Musick also completed other post office murals in Colorado and Missouri and in his later years, taught in Colorado. He said that his first two mural commissions were 'scenic pot-boilers on restaurant walls, (which) were happily destroyed by fire.' His first important mural was a 5' x 14'...

The New Deal mural "Peach Orchard" was created for the then-new Batesburg, South Carolina post office. It was painted in 1941 by Irving A. Block. In the 1980s, the cities of Batesburg & Leesville combined into one city and a new post office was constructed. As of 2013, the old New Deal Batesburg post office had been sold and left vacant by its new owners.

This oil-on-canvas mural, entitled "Harbor at Rogers City," was painted by James Calder and installed on September 16, 1941. Calder painted three post office murals in Michigan, including "St. Clair River" in St. Clair and "Waiting for the Mail" on the wall of the Grand Ledge Post Office, portraying a farm family anticipating their daily delivery.
