  • Municipal Water System Improvements - Claremont NH
    Annual municipal reports for Claremont document extensive New Deal involvement in developing the city's water supply and sewage systems. In 1935, this work included WPA aid in the construction of the local Rice Reservoir, and CCC construction of five "water holes" "in outlying sections as an added aid in combating fires on isolated farms." In 1940, the PWA contributed to a municipal sewer project, and WPA labor was used to improve the hospital's sewer lines. New Deal aid for sewer projects continued into 1941.
  • Clear Creek Outdoor Education Center - La Cañada Flintridge CA
    The Clear Creek Outdoor Education Center in La Cañada Flintridge, CA, is based at former Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp Angeles Crest F-133, which was established in May 1933 for the development of Angeles National Forest. One of the projects undertaken by the CCC men stationed here was the construction of a road between 1933 and 1934; its location is unclear. Today, the Clear Creek Outdoor Education Center is a Los Angeles Unified School District science education facility and camp.
  • Riverside Park Reconstruction - New York NY
    Riverside Park is a 6.7-mile long waterside public park in Manhattan's Upper West Side, running between the Hudson River and Riverside Drive. Its origins go back to Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux,  the designers of Central Park in the 19th century.  In the 1930s the park was completely redeveloped and expanded, in part in conjunction with the Henry Hudson Parkway, with the help of the New Deal.   • Spring Mill State Park: Bathhouse (former) - Mitchell IN
    Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and Works Progress Administration (WPA) laborers worked together to build a bathhouse.  The project spanned from 1933 till 1941. The project was abandoned by the New Deal agencies at the onset of World War II. The project was eventually completed by park workers. The remodeled bathhouse now serves as the park's Nature Center.
  • Spring Mill State Park - Mitchell IN
    Spring Mill State Park was occupied by New Deal agencies from 1933 until 1941. CCC Company 1536 first occupied the camp in June of 1933. The camp was integrated and consisted of eight percent black enrollees. Company 1536 constructed overnight cabins, a campground, a boathouse, shelters, and more. Company 1536 was eventually joined by a Company 539. Company 539 was completely comprised of African Americans that had just arrived from Yellowstone. Company 539 constructed a triple arched bridge, restrooms, and shelters. WPA laborers also helped build a water system at Spring Mill State Park.
  • Crotona Park, Indian Pond and Boathouse - Bronx NY
    "Indian Pond and boathouse at Crotona Park, June 2014. The boat house was built by the WPA as part of the massive reconstruction of Crotona that was completed in 1941. The pond is covered with algae and choked with vegetation; it was restored in 2009 but then there was a problem with pond scum that has not yet been addressed... According to the Parks Department, the boathouse rented boats until the the 1970s. In 1984 it was briefly a nature center for Urban Park Rangers, and as of 2001, it's a nature center again."   (https://www.kermitproject.org)

    "The Corn School" is a Section of Fine Arts mural completed by Jessie Hull Mayer for the Lagrange post office in 1941. The size of the mural is 11'2" x 5'7" and the medium is oil on canvas.
  • Post Office Mural - Dunkirk IN
    "Preparations for Dunkirk Autumn Festival" is a post office mural completed by Frances Foy in 1941 under the auspices of the Treasury Section of Fine Arts. The size of the mural is 13'7" x 4'6" and the medium is oil on canvas.
  • Post Office Mural - Boonville IN
    The Section of Fine Arts-funded mural "Boonville Beginnings" was painted by Ida Ableman and installed in the lobby of the Boonville, Indiana post office in 1941. The size of the mural is 12'7" x 5'6" and the medium is casein tempera on canvas.
  • Annapolis National Cemetery Improvements - Annapolis MD
    From the National Park Service: “One of the 14 national cemeteries that date from the Civil War, the Annapolis National Cemetery is the final resting place for many Union soldiers who died in the nearby ‘parole camps’ and hospitals of the Maryland capital” (see source note below). Maintenance ledgers (see image below for an example) show that the WPA did extensive work at the cemetery, such as installing utilities, realigning headstones, removing dead trees, and constructing a utility building.
