  • Inks Dam National Fish Hatchery - Burnet TX
    In 1938, the Public Works Administration, which had dam construction projects along the Colorado River in Texas, proposed the establishment of a federal fish hatchery in the area to provide fish for the newly created lakes. Congressman Lyndon B. Johnson arranged an agreement between the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA), the U.S. Bureau of Fisheries and the National Youth Administration (NYA) to construct the hatchery. The NYA established a camp at Inks Dam in 1938 and began construction of the fish hatchery in 1939.   • Oaklyn Municipal Building - Oaklyn NJ
    The WPA constructed this brick municipal building in 1941. The building now houses the city police and other offices.
  • Munday School Lunchroom - Munday TX
    With WPA support, a school lunchroom was added to the Munday school for African Americans. Two women were certified to prepare and serve 40 meals a day, at a cost of five cents each. The school's PTA raised the money for the equipment.
  • Huntington Ave. Subway Extension - Boston MA
    In 1938-1941 the WPA constructed this Boston subway extension, part of the Boston Elevated Railway which now appears to be part of the MBTA Green Line underground light rail route. WPA Bulletin, 1937: HUNTINGTON AVENUE SUBWAY TO EMPLOY 1400 A YEAR Work for 1400 men for about a year will be provided by the $2,000,000 Huntington avenue subway in Boston on which initial construction has begun.   • Wells High School Murals - Chicago IL
    Henry Simon painted a series of murals entitled "The Founding of McKendree College, Lebanon, Illinois." The murals were intended for that institution but never installed. "The Circuit Rider," "Bishop McKendree at the Site of the College" and "Peter Aker's Prophecy" were painted in 1941 with funding from the WPA Federal Art Project.  
  • Norwalk Transit District Murals - Norwalk CT
    Artist Arthur Gibson Hull painted a series of murals depicting the travels of Marco Polo, including: "Africa," "China," "India," "Venice, the Musicians" and "Venice, the Ship." The murals were originally installedin 1940-41 at the Norwalk High School, with funding from the WPA Federal Art Project. They were restored in 1986 and are now located in the Norwalk Transit District building.  
  • Post Office Murals - Harrodsburg KY
    The post office contains six murals depicting the history of Harrodsburg. They were painted in 1941 with support from the Treasury Section of Fine Arts. Orville Carroll painted five of the six murals. "Daniel Boone and Michael Stoner Arriving at Harrod's Settlement" is suspected to have been painted by Charles Goodwin, though this has not been confirmed.  
  • Municipal Park Improvements - Concord NH
    Town reports for Concord document a number of miscellaneous improvements to parks around the city. A 1933 report of that year stated: "With funds obtained from the CWA considerable work has been done and all the parks received attention." In 1933 and 1934, the CWA was involved in tree work around the city. In 1939, the city reported it had received "468,000 man-hours of labor during the past year.   • Rollins Park Improvements - Concord NH
    Municipal reports for the town of Concord document New Deal improvements to the park throughout the late 1930s and early 1940s. In 1935, the CWA funded a stone wall along Broadway, enlarged the park's wading pool and removed dead trees and stumps. In 1936, the PWA completed a new bathing pool in Rollins Park. A further 75 foot addition was added to the old pool in 1941. In 1939, acres of land were graded at the park. In 1940, 400 feet of ashlar wall was constructed and a new baseball diamond was developed. Rollins Park bleachers were relocated.
  • Post Office Mural - Bluffton OH
    The oil-on-canvas mural "Joseph DeFord and His Friends Building the First Cabin" was painted with federal Treasury Section of Fine Arts funds. The work was installed in the lobby of Bluffton's historic post office building in 1941.
