  • Town Hall (former) - Porum OK
    The WPA constructed a small stone town hall for the town of Porum in 1940. A 1985 Oklahoma Landmarks Survey described the building: "This town hall is a single-story, rectangular (47' x 34') structure constructed of uncut native stone of auburn and buff colors. Lighter colored stones serve as quoins at the corners. The roof is both gabled and hipped with intersecting valleys. The front and rear entrances are single door and have stoops; only the front entrance is protected with a small lean-to like covering..." In 1985, it was still being used by the local government.   • City Hall and Fire Station - Mineola TX
    In 1902 Mineola's city hall burned. For over 20 year they operated out of rental property. In 1929 the city bought this property and in 1929 the city started to build a combination fire house/city hall. The fire house was completed in 1931 but then the city ran out of money. According to a newspaper article, in August of 1940 the city applied for WPA funds to complete the city hall. Other sources say the city hall was completed in 1939.
  • Turner Middle School - St. Louis MO
    This art deco style building was constructed by the PWA in 1938-1940. It was originally occupied by Stowe Teachers College, a college for black educators. It was named after Charles Turner, an educator and scientist.
  • Maitland Arroyo Bridge - Walsenburg CO
    "Constructed in 1940, the Colorado Department of Highways designed the 123-foot long timber stringer bridge that includes six 20-foot long spans.  As one of the largest vehicular structures built by the Great Depression era Works Progress Administration, the intact bridge is noteworthy for its multiple spans and stone masonry abutments." The bridge carries State Highway 69 over Maitland Arroyo.
  • Main Street Sidewalk - Clayton NM
    The Work Projects Administration (W.P.A.) constructed sidewalks in Clayton, New Mexico. Evidence of such can be found at 10 Main Street, where two stamp imprints declare "WPA 1940" and "WPA 1942," respectively. ca. 2015: "The downtown sidewalks will soon be replaced in a NM Department of Transportation construction project, but the WPA stamps will be preserved and placed in the new sidewalks." As of 2017, the two stamps were isolated from the newer sidewalk with rings of bricks.
  • Glen Rose Dinosaur Tracks Display - Austin TX
    This small building on the grounds of the Texas Memorial Museum at the University of Texas was built by the WPA to house specimens from the Glen Rose Dinosaur Trackway. The tracks were removed and the building closed in 2004, after experts discovered that roof leakage, improper ventilation, and mold growth were damaging the tracks.  
  • City Hall and Civic Center - Holland TX
    Between 1938 in 1940 the Works Progress Administration awarded a marching grant to the City of Holland for a Municipal Builing and Community Center. Today, while City Hall has moved into a connercial building across the street, the Kuhlmann Civic Center in downtown Holland TX still serves the folks of this small town
  • Nipmuc Road Reconstruction - Framingham MA
    The Work Projects Administration (W.P.A.) reconstructed Framingham's Nipmuc Road in 1940. Town Report, 1940: Portions of Nipmuc Road between Wood Avenue and Row Street had settled materially because of the poor foundation conditions existing there and the sewer, drain and water pipes in the same went down with the street surface. These pipes were all relaid on wood pile and concrete slab foundations, and the street was rebuilt and restored to its original grade.
  • Springfield Water Works Filters - Westfield MA
    NOTE: none of the sources cited actually mentions the WPA... From the 1840s-1870s, the city of Springfield constructed and utilized an aqueduct system to bring in water from sources to the west of the city. Multiple collection sites, including Ludlow Reservoir, Borden Brook Reservoir, and Cobble Mountain Reservoir, were built prior to 1931 to hydrate the city. The West Parrish Filters project was constructed from 1939-1940 by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) from an expense of $500,000.   • University of Georgia: Fine Arts Building - Athens GA
    "The Fine Arts Building was designed and constructed in 1939-1940 as a Federal Public Works Administration (PWA) project. The Neoclassical style building was originally designed to house the drama, music, dance, and visual arts programs."
