    The York Post Office was constructed ca. 1939-40 with Treasury Department funds. The building was sold in 2013, and operations relocated.  
  • Post Office (former) - Yukon OK
    The historic post office building in Yukon, Oklahoma was constructed between 1939 and 1940 with federal Treasury Department funds. The building is now municipally owned. A New Deal that was painted for this building has since been moved to the city's current postal facility.
  • Post Office (former) - Yuma AZ
    The original funding was appropriated in 1931, before the beginning of the New Deal, but the beginning of construction was in 1933 close to the time that New Deal funds were being released to Arizona. Additionally, at the dedication, the governor's secretary "made a plea to Arizona citizens for greater unity in support of the national and state recovery programs."
  • Post Office (former) Addition - Ithaca NY
    The U.S. Treasury Department funded an addition to Ithaca, New York's former main post office (now Ithaca's Town Hall) during the mid-1930s. The project was completed in early 1936. Ithaca's Downtown Station post office continues to occupy a corner of the old building.
  • Post Office (former) Addition - Kingston NY
    Kingston, New York's 1907 post office, located at the northeast corner of Broadway and Grand Street, was enlarged and remodeled using Treasury Department funds in a project completed in 1938. The local paper Daily Freeman reported in 2013: "It was a beautiful granite post office built there in 1907," but it eventually got to be too small for the community's needs, Ford said. A former mayor could have purchased the old building for $1 and preserved it, the historian said, but he wanted the property back on the tax rolls, so the building was sold and torn down.

  • Post Office (former) Extension - Northampton MA
    An extension to the old Northampton Post Office was constructed in 1938 with Treasury Department funds. It is located at 47 Pleasant Street, and currently houses various private offices. "The building was built in 1903 as a United States Post Office. It was expanded during subsequent years, then decommissioned and sold by the Postal Service in 1979. The building was renovated in 1990. It is constructed of stone and brick in Neoclassical design enhanced with two story graceful palladium windows, concrete columns, and impressive wood detail."    
  • Post Office (former) Renovations - Gaffney SC
    The historic former post office Gaffney, South Carolina was constructed in 1912. However, the building received a remodeling (and, possibly, an all-new addition to the rear)—a New Deal project—that was completed in 1940. The building, often referred to as the "grand dame" by locals, now houses Gaffney's Visitor Center as well as art studios.

    The historic post office building in Fulton, New York "was built in 1912-1915 and enlarged in 1936-1938. It is one of a number of post offices in New York State designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect of the Treasury Department, James Knox Taylor. It is a two story building with a limestone facade that contains a six-part colonnade with attached Doric order columns set in antis between Doric piers in the Greek Revival style."     The historic post office building in Geneva, New York was constructed in 1905-6. An addition to the post office was constructed with federal Treasury Department funds as a New Deal project; that work was completed in 1940. The building, which is still in use today, possesses examples of New Deal artwork both inside and out.

    "The U.S. Post Office and Courthouse, built in 1933, is an historic United States Post Office and federal courthouse building located at 120 12th Street in Columbus, Georgia. It was designed by Atlanta-based architect William Augustus Edwards who designed nine South Carolina courthouses as well as academic buildings at 12 institutions in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.     The historic Post Office and Courthouse in Auburn, New York was "built in 1888–1890 and was designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect of the Treasury Department, Mifflin E. Bell, in the Richardsonian Romanesque style. The limestone-and-brick building was expanded in 1913–1914, designed by James M. Elliot, and again in 1937." The latter extension served as a New Deal project, developed with funds provided by the federal the Treasury Department. The building presently serves as a county office building.

  • Post Office and Courthouse Reliefs - Greeneville TN
    The former Greenville Tennessee post office and courthouse at 101 W Summer St. was built in 1904. In 1939, William Zorach installed two wooden carved reliefs depicting "The Resources of Nature" and "Man Power." The carvings were funded by the Federal Works Agency. After the old post office and courthouse became a private bank, the reliefs were moved to the current courthouse at this location.

    The historic main post office in Schenectady, New York was originally constructed in 1912. The building received a New Deal extension undertaken between 1933 and 1935. Work was overseen by contractor Leon Wexler and consisted of constructing the extension as well as remodeling of the building. A sign posted next to the building at the time of its construction said: "Federal Public Works Project No. 6."

  • Poteau Community Building - Poteau OK
    Built in 1937 to re-start a floundering city library system, to be staffed by Works Progress Administration librarians. Building continued to serve as the library until the 1960s. Currently in private ownership. Built of rusticated sandstone and unusual in the fact that the main entry in on the second floor. A pair of stone staircases provide front-door access. Adjacent to the building is on overgrown park with BBQ pits and picnic tables. It's unclear whether the park was part of the WPA construction.
  • Potomac State College: Faculty Homes (former) – Keyser WV
    In September 1935, the Public Works Administration (PWA) allotted $41,818 for the construction of faculty homes at Potomac State College (PSC), in Keyser, West Virginia. The allotment consisted of a $23,000 loan and an $18,818 grant. The Tri-State Construction and Building Company of Ashland, Kentucky, won the bid to construct the homes, and broke ground in April 1936.   • Power Plant, City Hospital Complex - St. Louis MO
    Completed by the Public Works Administration in 1937 to serve the City Hospital complex, the Power Building is a tall 3-story building with high ceilings on all floors. It is rectangular and covered with red brick. There is a tall brick smokestack. The building has been repurposed and currently houses a climbing gym, an elegant restaurant, and other businesses.
  • Prefabricated Defense Housing - Sheffield AL
    The Federal Works Agency built prefabricated defense housing at Sheffield. “Construction of 250 units was assigned to the Tennessee Valley Authority for industrial workers in the Muscle Shoals area.” The exact location and status of these buildings is presently unknown to Living New Deal.

    The Leander C. and Laurel L. Pritchard Memorial Auditorium in Falls City, Nebraska was constructed as a $100,000 Works Progress Administration (WPA) project in 1939.
  • Protestant Cay Residence Reconstruction - St. Croix VI
    “Protestant Cay residence, St. Croix. The reconstruction of this attractively located and interesting structure was completed except for certain minor details and except for the reconstruction of adjacent outbuildings. This residence will be made available as quarters for an officer of the government of the Virgin Islands.” The work was executed by the WPA and cost $ 6,000.
  • Provincetown Cemetery Improvements - Provincetown MA
    The Provincetown Advocate reported in 1937: "Work on the Provincetown cemetery is being resumed after a shutdown since last spring. Harry W. Jordan, WPA foreman, reports that 12 men started work last Saturday on a project to fill in and enlarge the Protestant cemetery. Also an addition of 150 feet is being made to the cemetery along its entire width. Working days of the WPA crew will be Monday, Wednesday and Saturday."
  • Prowers Housing Welfare Complex - Lamar CO
    "The Prowers Housing Welfare Housing is a complex of five buildings located on the northern edge of Lamar. The complex is located near the railroad tracks in an area that primarily light industrial. The Fairmont Cemetery, with stone walls constructed under a WPA project, is located northeast of the housing complex, on the opposite side on Maple Street.
