    The Works Progress Administration built the New London Municipal Docks in New London CT. The exact location and condition of this facility are unknown to the Living New Deal.
  • Mansfield Town Hall - Mansfield CT
    The Works Progress Administration built the Mansfield Town Hall in Mansfield CT, circa 1937. The exact location and condition of this facility are unknown to the Living New Deal.
  • Shade Swamp Bird and Animal Sanctuary Improvements (former) - Farmington CT
    The Works Progress Administration built cages for, and landscaped the grounds of, the Bird and Animal Sanctuary in Shade Swamp CT, circa 1937. The Civilian Conservation Corps built a log and shingle shelter in 1934. The structure is is still on site and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Shade Swamp Bird and Animal Sanctuary is still extant, but the site is abandoned.
  • School Gymnasium - Waelder TX
    In September 1935, the City of Waelder applied for Works Progress Administration funds to build a Gymnasium. The Living New Deal could not confirm if the building located on this site is the one built by the WPA built. There is no marker on site.
  • School Grounds Improvements - Canaan ME
    The Civil Works Administration (CWA) carried out improvements on the ground so fthe Grammar School in Canaan ME. According to a Report of Superintendent of Schools, “One of the very pleasing innovations of the past year was the grading of the school grounds at both the grammar and primary schools. I wish to extend personally my thanks and appreciation to Mr. Horace Bean for his fine spirit of cooperation in this enterprise. He, personally aided in every way, and only through his keen interest and participation in the project would it have been possible to use the CWA funds for this work....
  • Beauvoir Renovations and Repair - Biloxi MS
    Beauvoir, the retirement home of Jefferson Davis, was in use as the Old Soldiers Home in 1934-1945 when Federal Emergency Relief Administration (FERA) and the Mississippi legislature funded repairs and renovations to 20 state institutions. Davis' Greek Revival home constructed c. 1850 was home to indigent or impoverished Confederate Veterans. Through combined state legislative funds and the ERA labor and funds, Beauvoir was "renovated and brought up to a reasonable state of repair" (Clarion-Ledger, 1935, p. 3).   • Flood Mitigation - Mercer ME
    Mercer ME, a small town of only 408 residents at the 1930 Census, received federal help for relief work, which included flood mitigation. Contributions from the Works Progress Administration (WPA), the Public Works Administration (PWA), and the Civil Works Administration (CWA) are mentioned in the 1936 Town Report. The Report lists following details about the relief work and flood control efforts carried out in 1936: Two people are listed in connection with a 1933 CWA project. Eighteen people and three companies are listed in connection with repairs after the 1936 flood. "Flood Project, WPA, Beech Hill Towns Portion $1,171.94."  
  • School Repairs - Farmington ME
    1934 Report of Superintendent of Schools: "At West Farmington, Farmington Falls, Fairbanks School and the Red School, grading was done, the labor for which was paid by the Federal Government, but the material was furnished by the School Department. This is responsible for most of the deficit in the Repair Account. In addition to grading the grounds at the Red School, a new fence was built and the roof of the schoolhouse was shingled." The Red School House survived and was moved to the county fair grounds in 2007.
  • High School and Gymnasium/Auditorium - Decatur TX
    The Works Progress Administration (WPA) built the Decatur High School and Gymnasium/Auditorium between 1938 and 1940. Three WPA plaques were found on this complex of buildings. One plaque found on entrance near the flag pole where it now says Decatur ISD Administration. One plaque found near tower entrance on the north side of the building. One plaque on the separate gymnasium/auditorium.
