    The Works Progress Administration built retaining walls for the West Virginia Industrial Home for Girls in the vicinity of Salem, Harrison County.  
  • Port Washington Breakwater Light and Pier - Port Washington WI
    This eventual WPA project was originally begun during the Hoover administration, in 1931. The current $625,000 pier took over 3 years to complete. Not part of the original appropriation, Congress approved the construction of a new pier head light in 1934, and it is likely this that was completed under the WPA. Constructed in what is considered the "Art Deco" style at a cost of $35,000, the light features a huge concrete base to provide increased elevation.   • Camp Fairchance - Low Gap WV
    The Works Progress Administration (WPA) and the Federal Emergency Relief Administration (FERA) funded the construction of Camp Fairchance in Low Gap, Boone County. The buildings were constructed by FERA and later occupied by the WPA. The camp hired unemployed teachers through the WPA, and housed underprivileged children and children without legal guardians.
  • Post Office (former) - Spearfish SD
    In 1940 this post office opened for the use of the citizens of Spearfish. It was built in an architectural style that was used in many small towns. There were also offices in the basement to house federal programs such as the Extension Service. From 1930 to to 1942 the federal government greatly expanded its public building programs. The style of the Spearfish post office was described as Class C, for a "second class city," which was defined by the volume of postal receipts.   • Morgantown Airport - Morgantown WV
    The Works Progress Administration (WPA) built the Morgantown Airport in Morgantown. Pictured are WPA crews grading and leveling the runways of the new airfield, in 1936.  
  • Roney's Point Tuberculosis Hospital (abandoned) - Triadelphia WV
    The Public Works Administration (PWA) funded the construction of a Tuberculosis Hospital in Roney’s Point, Ohio County, in the vicinity of Wheeling. The 40-bed hospital opened in 1936. The cost was $188,000 which was covered in part by the PWA, the county, and the Anti-Tuberculosis League. The facility is currently abandoned. Project W. Va.-4047.
  • West Virginia State University Development - Institute WV
    The Public Works Administration funded the construction of facilities for the West Virginia State University (former West Virginia State College) in Kanawha County. The West Virginia State University was founded as an African American college.
  • VT 100 (Alexander Bridge) - South Londonderry VT
    The Public Works Administration built the Alexander Bridge over the West River in South Londonderry. Docket No. 5828-(Vt.). The structure was engineered by the Vermont State Highway Engineering Department and was built as a 4-span concrete bridge.
