Mount Rainier was the nation's fifth National Park, established 1899. During the Great Depression the New Deal's Civilian Conservation Corps greatly aided the park's development. The CCC constructed numerous fire lookout towers, including that at Gobbler's Knob in 1933. Elevation: 5,485 feet. Wikipedia: "One of four fire lookouts remaining in the park, the lookout is used for visitor services during summer weekends. The building is about 14 feet by 14 feet, and was designed by the National Park Service Branch of Plans and designs under the supervision of Acting Chief Architect Edwin A. Nickel."

The original Lincoln County Courthouse in Brookhaven, Mississippi was remodeled in 1933 by the Civil Works Administration. It was demolished in 1978-1979.

The post office in Hamilton was completed in 1934 with funds provided by the Treasury Department. It is also the site of Richard Zoellner's three 1934 murals--"Agriculture," "Fort Hamilton," and "Industries of Hamilton"--painted with funds provided by the federal government and viewable in the lobby.

"Among most impressive projects was the C.C.C.’s construction of the first ski trails on the mountain in Mt. Mansfield State Forest. Charles Lord, a civil engineer overseeing a twenty-five-man work crew from the Moscow camp, carved out several trails, among them: the Ski Master, the Overland, the Perry Merrill, Lord, the S-53, and the Nose Dive. The historic post office in Belding was constructed in 1933 with funds provided by the Treasury Department. It is also the site of Marvin Beerhom's 1943 mural, "Belding Brothers and Their Silk Industry," viewable in the library.

The former U.S. Inspection Station at the Canadian border north of Eureka, Montana (along Route 93) was constructed with federal Treasury Department funds during the 1930s. Completion photographs of the facility taken Nov. 3, 1933 reside in the National Archives. The facility has since been replaced.
