  • Meter Shop - Portland ME
    In 1933, the Portland Water District moved its meter shop from its Casco Street office in Portland office to its main facility on Douglass Street. The Portland Water District was able to complete the new meter shop with C. W. A. (Civil Works Administration) funds made available by the Federal Government under its plan to relieve the unemployment situation by granting funds to public agencies so that they could complete projects approved by the Federal Relief Authorities.
  • Babb-Piegan Inspection Station (former) - Babb MT
    The historic Babb-Piegan U.S. Border Inspection Station on Highway 89 north of Babb, Montana was constructed with federal Treasury Department funds. The rustic cabin-style facility was completed in 1993. Replaced in 2003 with a facility closer to the border, the historic inspection station is part of what is now a larger housing development.

This is among a series that were likely meant as studies for murals depicting Civil Works Association (CWA) projects around San Francisco. The watercolor is currently on view at the Legion of Honor in that city.

  • Zion National Park: Canyon Overlook Trail - Washington County UT
    The Canyon Overlook Trial at Zion National Park was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1933.  It runs about a half mile from the east portal of the famous Zion-Mt. Carmel Tunnel to an overlook at the Great Arch.  Sections of the trail are cantilevers over sheer stone cliffs.  The trail was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
