Description
A New Deal-era branch post office in East Los Angeles, California was constructed with Treasury Department funds. The $125,000 building’s dedication ceremony took place on April 28, 1940 at 2:30 p.m. The property, at 975 South Atlantic Blvd., has housed postal operations to this day.
The Los Angeles Times reported in 1962 that the federal government had planned “new buildings for existing” post offices in the L.A. area, including East Los Angeles’s.
Unfortunately, it is unclear to Living New Deal whether the post office fully replaced the Depression-era East Los Angeles post office building or merely remodeled and expanded it.
