Description
The historic high school in Dobbs Ferry, New York was constructed using federal Public Works Administration (PWA) funds during the 1930s. The PWA contributed a $607,400 loan and $193,049 grant to the project, whose total cost was $832,335. Construction occurred between May 1934 and June 1936. The building, designed by architects Knappe & Morris, is still in use today.

I went there in 1962,63,64 and used to sneak into the auditorium and play with the large switches and rheostats that operated the stage colored lights and the auditorium chandeliers. Would like to know if the school still has the leaded glass windows.
No, unfortunately they sold them off as a fundraiser and put in new window. :9
Play with the lights!!? I was there from 59 to 63 and used the classic, beautiful auditorium for smoking cigarettes.
Still a glorious piece of architecture!
I started attending DFHS as a seventh grader in 1954. So it was only 15 years after these WPA pictures were taken. Seems hard to believe. The pics just reinforce my notion that it was a beautiful, classic building and it was really a privilege to go there. No wonder that shots of it were used in the school scenes for the movie “Splendor in the Grass”.
