  • Herrington Manor State Park - Oakland MD
    The Civilian Conservation Corps created Herrington Manor Lake by damming Herrington Creek. They also built ten cabins, the lake concession building (which has been altered since), and a pavilion. The CCC boys also planted trees throughout the area. According to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, “The park offers swimming, canoeing, kayaking, picnicking, hiking, tennis, volleyball and 20 furnished log cabins for rental use year round” (this includes the ten CCC-built cabins). The park also offers fishing and cross-country skiing opportunities.

  • Post Office Mural - Stilwell OK
    The historic post office in Stilwell, Oklahoma houses an example of New Deal artwork: this 1942 oil-on-canvas mural, "Cherokee Indian Farming and Animal Husbandry," by Olga Mohr was commissioned by the Treasury Section of Fine Arts. As of 2023 the mural has been removed due to a leak in the roof above it. The mural will remain out of view until the leak has been fixed.

  • Post Office Mural - Nashville IL
    This Section of Fine Arts mural the "Barn Yard" was created by artist Zoltan Sepeshy in 1942. It is a tempera painting on wall board. A recent local article (pictured below) describes the mural: "The next time you visit the Nashville Post Office to mail a letter or get a stamp, lift up your head and look at the mural on the west wall above the post office boxes... The local mural, entitled, 'Barnyard.' depicts this area's agricultural heritage. Painted in 1941 by Zoltan Sepeshy, the mural is of significant historical value."
  • Cape Hatteras National Seashore Improvements - Rodanthe NC
    The CCC began working along Cape Hatteras National Seashore in 1934 (this was actually three years before it was officially named "Cape Hatteras National Seashore"). The first CCC boys on this project were based out of Manteo, North Carolina, Camp P 63. The work they performed included the creation of sand dunes and the planting of grasses, shrubs, and trees. The plantings included Bermuda grass, wax myrtle, water bush, loblolly pine, bald cypress, and more (the shrubs and trees were obviously planted a little inland from the beaches and sand dunes).
