- Adobe Art Gallery - Castro Valley CA"The Adobe building, located on the grounds of the Castro Valley Elementary School, was leased to the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District for use as a community center. The Adobe was a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project designed by Mario Corbett of San Francisco and built in 1938. The building is located in an elm grove planted by the Castro Valley Boy Scouts in 1926. There are hundreds of 4x9x16 inch adobe bricks made by the W.P.A. from dirt excavated from the site of the Redwood School in Castro Valley. The walls of the Adobe are 16 inches thick....
- Carmel Firehouse: Copper Relief - Carmel CAThe metal relief at the Carmel Firehouse in Carmel CA was funded by the Federal Art Project (FAP). It was installed the year after the completion of the firehouse (1937) and sits above the fireplace on the east wall of the second-story meeting space. This metal relief of an early firetruck was designed by Clay Spohn and executed by Alonzo Chard, similar to another WPA project executed for the Adobe building in Castro Valley, CA. - Los Gatos High School - Los Gatos CAThis 24' x 9' egg tempera mural "The Legend of New Almaden" by Clay Spohn was originally painted for this high school with support from the WPA Federal Art Project. It was then variously moved, cut into smaller pieces and put in storage before being restored and returned to Los Gatos HS.
