  • Interchange Bridge - Mount Vernon NY
    Interchange Bridge, which carries Cross County Parkway across the Bronx River Parkway at the western border of Mount Vernon, New York (at Yonkers) was constructed during the Great Depression with the aid of federal Public Works Administration (PWA) funds. The PWA supplied a $62,424 grant; the total cost of the project was $88,695. Construction occurred between August 1938 and November 1939. The concrete arch bridge, whose total length is 690 feet, was rehabilitated in 1985. (PWA Docket No. NY 1504)
  • Main Post Office Addition - Mount Vernon NY
    The historic (and current) main post office in Mount Vernon, New York was originally constructed in 1915. The building received an extension as part of a New Deal project completed in 1937 with federal Treasury Department funds. Work was overseen by contractor Arc Engineering Corp. and consisted of constructing the extension as well as remodeling of the building.

    The federal Works Progress Administration (WPA) constructed a retaining wall at Memorial Field in Mount Vernon, New York during the 1930s. Recent plans for the renovation of Memorial Field have been fitful. The current status of the retaining wall is unknown to the Living New Deal.  
  • Public Library Addition - Mount Vernon NY
    The public library in Mount Vernon, New York was expanded with a new addition during the 1930s, aided by federal Public Works Administration funds. The library is still in use today. The addition is located at the S. 2nd Avenue side of the building. PWA Docket No. NY 6504-D.
