Many of the original components have since been demolished and replaced, though the caretaker's residence—which was last lived in in 1986—is still extant.

    "In 1933, during the Great Depression, a student committee was formed to raise part of the $126,455 needed for the gym. In September of 1936, the rest of the funds were found when voters passed a $70,000 Public Works Administration bond measure." Though the school has recently received a new, modern sports facility, they are maintaining the old, beloved gym as well.

  • Wawona Ranger Station Residences - Yosemite National Park CA
    The New Deal made possible the construction of a ranger station in the Wawona area, which was added to Yosemite National Park in 1932.  The ranger station complex includes two ranger residences and accompanying garages.  These buildings still exist, but are now used for different purposes. According to the Superintendent's Monthly Report of December 1934, the Public Works Administration (PWA) provided the funding to the National Park Service (NPS) for the ranger station complex (Broesamle 2022). This contradicts the 2012 NPS report on design in the park, which attributes the buildings to the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) (see quote below).  The latter...
  • Wayne Aspinall Federal Building Addition - Grand Junction CO
    "The three-story Italian Renaissance Revival style building was constructed as a post office in 1918. James A. Wetmore served as the supervisory architect. The walls are of Indiana limestone, and the tall first floor windows are set in rounded arches. A 1940 addition, funded by the PWA, extends from the rear of the building. Malvaney designed the 51 x 110 foot Art Deco style building constructed of gray brick with stone trim and steel sash. I. C. Garbor and Son were the construction company.     Construction of the 1,950-foot earthen dam (embankment), gatehouse, spillway and outlet channel commenced in 1933 and was largely completed in 1935; the spillway gates were finished between 1937-1939. The concrete gatehouse was stamped with the year "1934" and "USIS" (Indian Irrigation Service). The purpose of the dam and reservoir is to impound much needed East Walker River water for agricultural use on the Walker River Indian Reservation.     "The Webster Hose, Hook and Ladder Company No. 3 is a unit of the fire department of Ansonia. Its new building is located in a residential area of the city. The first floor houses the apparatus and the second floor a recreation room, cardroom, and lounge. The building is two stories and a basement in height, 36 by 46 feet in plan, and is built of red brick with limestone trim and wood floor construction. It was completed in May 1937 at a construction cost of $25,830 and a project cost of $29,780."
