Andes Central School in Andes, New York was constructed with the aid of federal Public Works Administration (PWA) funds. The PWA provided a $90,000 grant for the project, whose total cost was $209,677. Construction occurred between Nov. 1936 and Oct. 1937. PWA Docket No. NY 8577-D

In 1922, due to increasing numbers of students, the Lake Placid school district constructed a large brick high school at the south end of the current middle high school. It was modern and fireproof, sitting on the hill overlooking athletic fields and Main street. In November 1933, again due to increasing numbers of pupils, the community members voted to increase the school size by building two more sections. Margaretville Central School in Margaretville, New York was constructed with the aid of federal Public Works Administration (PWA) funds. The building bears a 1939 cornerstone, and a "Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works" (PWA) plaque.

"The last structure built in the Main Street Historic District, the Roxbury Central School, is architecturally and historically significant as a Tudor Revival style building that symbolizes the period of centralization in the development of the New York educational system. The facility is an outstanding local landmark in Roxbury and was designed by the locally prominent Albany architect Harold O. Fullerton. Built as a Public Works Administration project between 1939 and 1940, the building eventually replaced eight one-room rural school houses.
