• Newport Elementary School Murals - Newport Beach CA
    The Federal Art Project (FAP) commissioned Jaine Ahring to create two murals for Newport Grammar School (now the Newport Elementary School) in 1937. Ahring chose the subjects Alice in Wonderland and Mother Goose for her oil-on-canvas murals.  In The New Deal in Orange County, California (The History Press, 2014), Charles Epting writes, “Given the scarcity of New Deal public art in Orange County, Ahring’s paintings are quite remarkable” (p. 38). Both murals are located in the school's main hallway.
  • East Whittier Middle School Mosaics - Whittier CA
    In 1937, the Federal Art Project (FAP), an agency created by the Works Progress Administration (WPA), funded the creation of four 4'x6' mosaic murals by Caspar Duchow at East Whittier Middle School in Whittier, CA. The murals depict and are titled: "Hippos," "Waterfowl," "Tropical Birds," and "Monkey." The murals were originally located in the cafeteria, which today serves as the computer room.

    Constructed by the WPA during 1936-1937, the South Side Bridge in Charleston, WV, a.k.a. the Dickinson Street Bridge, is a through truss span that crosses the Kanawha River. The structure was rehabilitated in 1990 and it is still in use today.
  • Clark Avenue Railroad Underpass - Las Vegas NV
    Las Vegas's Sun reported in 2004: "The underpass, the first structure of its type in Nevada to be listed in the , was built in 1937 by the Depression-era Works Project Administration. Preservationists say it's important because it brought what is now West Las Vegas together with the rest of the city. The city used to be split by the rail line, which was then elevated. The underpass was one of 78,000 bridges constructed under the Works Progress Administration. The original structure has already been altered due to the widening of Bonanza Road, which was Clark Avenue until the 1940s."

    Palmetto State Park is located on the San Marcos River between Luling and Gonzales, Texas in Gonzales County and is administered by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The park consists of 270 acres of land purchased from the City of Gonzales and private owners. The park was constructed by Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Companies 873, 886, and 1823(CV) between 1934 and 1937, with some funding from the National Park Service and opened to the public as a state park in 1936.     The New Deal is responsible for a magnificent array of artworks that embellish the Department of Justice building. The Treasury Section of Fine Arts commissioned artists to create 68 murals between 1936 and 1941 for $68,000, or one percent of the building cost.  The building’s murals depict scenes of daily life from American history and allegories on the role of justice in American society.   • Van Zandt County Courthouse - Canton TX
    The 1937 Van Zandt Courthouse was principally funded by the Public Works Administration at a cost of $142,000. The project provided much needed jobs for many unemployed citizens in Canton, Texas. The three story limestone structure has a cast stone veneer exterior with Moderne and Art Deco details.

    This post office was constructed by the Treasury Department in 1937. It briefly contained a New Deal mural painted by Harold Egan.    
  • Municipal Storm Sewers - Blue Point NY
    Sayville's Suffolk County Times reported in Feb. 1937 that the WPA had begun work on four storm sewers in Blue Point, providing employment for 60 laborers. The locations of the sewers are as follows: 1.
