Flood Special West Virginia

On Works Progress Administration flood relief activities in Wheeling, West Virginia, WPA units shovel mud from streets into trucks and wash the streets. Cellars and basements are pumped out. Lime is spread on sewage. Usable goods are sorted from debris. Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and WPA food kitchens dispense food to refugees and relief workers. Citizens are rescued by rowboat and taken to WPA relief centers.

NYA in Wartime

Graduates of NYA schools operate lathes, presses, and milling machines a machine shop. Airplane, wings and fuselages are drilled and welded by girls. Life Jackets are tested. Life rafts are assembled and waterproofed. Deck section of a submarine are moved and assembled in a shipyard. Bulkhead sections are welded. The submarine is launched.

This film documents Civilian Conservation Corps activities as the Berryman camp in Missouri. It shows camp personnel; the arrival of new enrollees; building the camp, fire towers and roads; walnut planting; and recreation activities.

The Inauguration of FDR

On the 1941 inauguration. Reel 1 shows crowds along the parade route, NYA parade units forming, the Presidential car passing to the Capitol from the White House, and Pres. Roosevelt being sworn in by Chief Justice Hughes. FDR waves to the crowd as his car leaves the Capitol grounds. Reel 2, parade units pass in review: cavalry, tanks, West Point cadets, Annapolis midshipmen, NYA contingents, the Marine Corps band, etc.

Health For Youth

On cooperation among the NYA, the Public Health Service, clinics, and private physicians and dentists to improve the health of U.S. youth. Boys and girls receive physical examinations at a free clinic. Children play and exercise in an orthopedic clinic. Includes shots of a Public Health Service dietary kitchen and of youngsters swimming, boxing, doing calisthenics, and practicing archery.

NYA In The Land of Coronado

On activities of youth. in the out-of-school program of the NYA in New Mexico. Spanish crafts are practiced at Albuquerque (Mountain Park Recreation center), Cienega, Las Vegas, and Jemez Springs. Boys work with wood and tin and girls weave and embroider. Other activities include tennis court construction, restoration of kivas, school construction, and furniture making. Shows recreational activities at the camps.
