    Located in Veterans Memorial Campground, Shelter #1 was a combined effort between La Crosse County and the WPA. It's 1937 stone structure is in amazing shape as it is maintained by the county. It sits across the campground drive from a static tank display and a memorial sign. The shingled roof is in fine condition as well.

  • Parklawn Housing Development Sculptures - Milwaukee WI
    "The Parklawn Housing Project, Milwaukee, WI was built by the WPA. Part of the philosophy was to incorporate art with mixed income families. There are two sculptures entitled "Fishing" and "Music" still extant done by WPA artists in the central park area of Parklawn (artists unknown), although there is extensive damage on both sculptures."
  • Pattison State Park - Superior WI
    In 1936, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) set up camp at Pattison State Park in Superior, Wisconsin. Pattison State Park was named for Martin Pattison, a wealthy Superiorite who had purchased the land in 1918 and gave it to the state in order to preserve its resources. The land became a state park in 1920. At Camp Pattison, the Corpsmen of Company 3663 would improve the park from a miniscule natural area to the expansive work of conservation it is today.   • Petrifying Springs Golf Course - Kenosha WI
    "It wasn’t until July 1933 when the WPA approved a request from the county to borrow the money from the federal government to build the course. Construction of the 18-hole course began in 1934. It opened in July 1936. Green fees were just 35 cents when the course first opened."   • Port Washington Breakwater Light and Pier - Port Washington WI
    This eventual WPA project was originally begun during the Hoover administration, in 1931. The current $625,000 pier took over 3 years to complete. Not part of the original appropriation, Congress approved the construction of a new pier head light in 1934, and it is likely this that was completed under the WPA. Constructed in what is considered the "Art Deco" style at a cost of $35,000, the light features a huge concrete base to provide increased elevation.
