• Fredericksburg Public School Improvements - Fredericksburg TX
    Fredericksburg received a WPA grant of $4,954 in 1939 to improve the campus and athletic field at the Fredericksburg Public School (now Fredericksburg Middle School). The school agreed to a dollar-for-dollar match and the seniors of 1938 donated $200 from their yearbook fund to help complete the project. The native flagstone wall in front of the school (Travis Street) would be dedicated to them. Other improvements were an arch built over the east entrance and re-paving of the driveway.   • Gillespie County Courthouse - Fredericksburg TX
    Built in the Moderne style, the Gillespie County Courthouse was completed in July 1939. There is a plaque just inside the front door that attributes the construction to the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works. Construction began on the courthouse in September 1938 after an election in August approved the issuance of bonds for the project. The federal government would contribute $65,450 to the construction of the building; this represented approximately 45% of the cost of the building.
  • Highway 16 Roadside Park - Fredericksburg TX
    The brochure A Guide to Depression Era Roadside Parks in Texas lists at #9 the Highway 16 Roadside Park as an existing Works Progress Administration-era roadside park. The park is located South of Fredericksburg in Medina County. A site visit in March 2018 revealed that the site is unmarked, but the construction materials are typical for WPA work of that era.  
  • Post Office (former) - Fredericksburg TX
    The Fredericksburg Post Office was built with New Deal funds in 1940. It is now Gillespie County Annex No. 1.
  • Post Office Mural - Fredericksburg TX
    "Loading Cattle" by Otis Dozier was completed with Section of Fine Arts funds in 1939. It was eventually transferred to the new post office at 1150 U.S. 87.
  • Vereins-Kirche - Fredericksburg TX
    The original Vereins-Kirche (Society Church) was the first public building in Fredericksburg. It was used for church services by the different denominations in early Fredericksburg. “The Vereins-Kirche was also used as Fredericksburg's first school, established under Leyendecker in 1847, and also as a town hall, a fortress, a sanctuary, and, in 1896, a pavilion for Fredericksburg's fiftieth anniversary celebration. In 1897, however, having fallen into disuse and disrepair and regarded as an obstruction to traffic on Main Street, the Vereins-Kirche was torn down.
