• Chase Park Improvements - Seminole OK
    Between 1937 and 1939 the WPA made improvements to Chase Park in Seminole, Oklahoma. The improvements included the construction of a wading pool and bathhouse. The Oklahoma Historic Preservation Survey notes that "...The workers who built the bathhouse and pool were drawn from relief rolls and had lost their jobs due to the economic depression. Their labor supplied the city of Seminole with recreational facilities that have been of benefit to many children on the hot summer days of southern Oklahoma.   • Community Building - Seminole OK
    In 1939 the Federal Works Progress Administration completed construction of this community building. Both the Waymarking site for this building and the Oklahoma Historic Preservation Survey make note of the architectural style of the building which is unique among WPA buildings. This WPA construction project provided employment for unemployed workers in the area and has remained a centerpiece of the city, hosting dances, concerts, wrestling matches, and other entertainment activities over the years. It now serves as the home of the American Legion.  
  • Municipal Building - Seminole OK
    The Seminole city council make plans in 1935 for a new Municipal building to hold offices and a "civic center" due to the fact the old "civic center" exploded due to a gas leak on December 29, 1934. After selecting the architectural firm from Oklahoma City. The city council applied for a grant from the Public Works Administration in April 1935. The grant was approved September 26, 1935 with a total amount of the construction cost at $86,818 and the first federal check arrived January 27, 1936 but ground breaking did not occur until March 1936 and a grand opening...
  • Post Office - Seminole OK
    The post office in Seminole was completed in 1937 with funds provided by the Treasury Department. Bertram E. Giesecke was the architect, supervised by Louis A. Simon. Neal A. Melick was the supervising engineer. It is also the site of Acee Blue Eagle's 1939 mural, "Seminole Indian Village Scene," completed with funds provided by the Treasury Section of Fine Arts and viewable in the lobby.
