• Former City Hall - New Albany MS
    The New Albany City Hall was designed by Mississippi architect E. L. Malvaney, who designed many modernist buildings in the state. The two-story Art Deco style building (with Art Moderne characteristics) is a Mississippi State Landmark. Joan Embree, 1996, described it as "...rectangularly-massed, has a flat roof, concrete entry, walk, and stair to the first level." It was described as "...a monolithic concrete structure by E. L.   • Post Office (former) - New Albany MS
    The Colonial Revival post office building was constructed in 1936 by Blair, Algernon Construction Company. The building is currently used as the Union County Development Association Building. The building contains a mural by Robert Cleaver Purdy, "Miliking Time," which was completed and installed in 1939.

    "Milking Time," by Robert Cleaver Purdy, is an oil-on-canvas mural completed and installed in 1939 in what was then the New Albany, Mississippi post office. It remains in the building, which is currently used as the Union County Development Association building.
  • School - New Albany MS
    The 1936 high school was designed by E. L. Malvaney, and constructed by Walter L. Perry Construction Company. Mississippi project W1034 provided a $40,909 grant and the city funded the remainder of the total cost of $92,437. Construction began March 25, 1936 and was completed January 20, 1937. The school was demolished at some point, but the concrete bas relief panels--found on many of E. L. Malvaney's Mississippi schools, were salvaged and erected at the back of the new school.
  • Street Improvements - New Albany MS
    New Albany received a grant of $28,800 to improve streets 9/13/1938 as PWA project 1324. Construction began 11/17/1938 toward the $62,195 project, completed 8/21/1939.
  • Union County Jail - New Albany MS
    A new county jail and improvements to the existing county courthouse were approved as PWA project 1272 July 23, 1938. E. L. Malvaney was architect for the two-story concrete Art Deco jail. Construction began 10/10/1938 and was completed 3/29/1939. PWA supplied a grant of $20,454 toward total cost of $45,577. Bonds were issued in the amount of $25,000 to contribute toward the cost of new jail construction and repair of the courthouse.
