Mansfield Sites

E. R. A. funds were used to assist the Mansfield, Massachusetts Fire Department with upkeep and beautification in 1934. "The Central Station received a coat of paint on all outside wood and metal surfaces during the year, also part of the inside walls and ceilings were painted." Three Fire Department trucks and a pump were also painted with the aid of E. R. A. funds.

The development of Memorial Park in Mansfield, Massachusetts during the 1930s was made possible by the "Federal Relief Administration" and the Works Progress Administration. The park was dedicated November 11, 1936 and is still in use today.

The old Mansfield post office now houses the Mansfield Elks Lodge No. 2633. The building was constructed by the Treasury Department in 1937.

The post office contains a 1939 Treasury Section of Fine Arts plaster relief by Joseph A. Coletti depicting "Farmers and Geese." The relief was originally in the old Mansfield post office, but moved along with the post office to this new location.

The schools of Mansfield, Massachusetts received assistance throughout the New Deal. Early New Deal-sponsored improvements came from the Civil Works Administration and the Federal Emergency Relief Administration, saving the town's taxpayers money. The town's 1933 Annual Report states: "Late in November, the Civil Works Administration approved a request of the School Department for $1,558.20 for the employing of seven local men in a program of repairs to school buildings and equipment. ... Besides numerous small jobs of repair work ... several larger projects are planned. These are, a new chimney at the Main Street School; a new floor in a basement room...
