    Extensive remnants of Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp, constructed between 1933 and 1938; concrete foundations, roadbeds, ditches, excavations- overgrown and with a more recent pared road bisecting the area. This site encompasses a larger area and more extensive remnants than are usually found at such locations, perhaps become, as evidence indicate, there were two companies encompassed here. (At one point there was a third company, but scant evidence indicates, its camp was elsewhere, along Anderson Road)

The West Virginia historical marker program began in 1934 with the beginning research for the markers with the intention of placing markers around the state to encourage tourism. Dr. Roy Bird Cook, a Charleston druggist, a longtime commission member, and a vocational historian worked on the project. Approximately 5,000 sites were collected with 440 markers selected by the commission for placement. Most of these along 44 state and federal highways.   • Municipal Pool (demolished) - Lafayette IN
    The Works Progress Administration (WPA) constructed a municipal pool at Columbian park in Lafayette, Indiana. "The pool was built in the 1930s by the Works Progress Administration and was the place to swim for kids in Lafayette, West Lafayette, Delphi, and other surrounding communities in the 1950s and ‘60s." The pool has since been demolished and replaced.

As many as 1,600 people used the pool on a single day soon after its opening.   • Muscatatuck County Park - North Vernon IN
    Jennings County Park. Established as the 4th Indiana State Park in 1921, originally called Vinegar Mill State Park after a pioneer-era stone cutting mill on the site. Renamed Muscatatuck State Park in 1922 and used as a state park, youth camp, and wildlife-raising station until 1968, when the property was transferred to the county. CCC and WPA built roads, trails, shelters, and stairs at the Vinegar Mill site.

    Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) laborers completed the custodian's cottage in 1936. The building is classified as parks rustic. Today the custodian's cottage is the property manger's residence.

The fire tower at O'Bannon State Park was completed in 1937 by CCC laborers. The steel tower replaced a temporary, 55' wooden tower. The fire tower stands around 100' tall with 9 flights of stairs within the tower.

    The campsite is marked primarily by low stone walls and scattered foundations. The camp was occupied in December of 1934 by Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Co. 517, which was comprised of young African-American boys. Upon completion of their work, the camp was discontinued in the fall of 1937 and Co. 517 moved on to another location.

  • Otis Park and Golf Course - Bedford IN
    Otis Park and Golf Course encompasses nearly 150 acres and features a collection of historic limestone structures from the early 20th century. It was acquired by the City of Bedford, Indiana in 1935 as a gift from Fred B. Otis, a Bedford newspaperman. The majority of the construction on the grounds between 1937 and 1941 and was funded with grants from the Works Progress Administration. On of the park's features, a band shell, was planned by Indiana WPA engineers and is the only band shell of its kind in the nation built by WPA.
