• Brewton Alabama Country Club and Airport Facilities - Brewton AL
    The Works Progress Administration built the Brewton Alabama Country Club and facilities for an adjacent airport on Highway 31 in Brewton. Next to the country club, the WPA built a nine-hole golf course, a landing field, 5000 linear feet of runway, and an adjacent airport hangar.
  • Brewton City Hall (former) - Brewton AL
    The Works Progress Administration built a new city hall building for the City of Brewton. The two-story structure with a raised basement was designed to house the City offices, the jail, the fire and police departments, and other uses. The project cost was approximately $31,000. A 1982 the National Register of Historic Places Nomination Form describes the architectural features of the building: "Brewton City Hall (212 St. Joseph Street): 1939; two story with raised basement and wings; brick; five bay facade with central entrance; excellent example of a W P A public building in the Georgian Revival style."
  • Brewton City Park Landscaping - Brewton AL
    The Works Progress Administration landscaped and beautified the Brewton City Park through the WPA Community Beautification Project sponsored by the City of Brewton.
  • Brewton Courthouse Annex - Brewton AL
    The Works Progress Administration built the Brewton Courthouse Annex in Brewton, Escambia County. The new annex provided additional space for ten county offices—the Department of Public Welfare, the county Education Department, the Home Demonstration and County Agricultural Agent, the County Health and Sanitation Departments, among others. The15-room brick structure has a basement with a storage vault. The approximate cost of the project was $16,000.
  • Galvanized Culverts - Brewton AL
    The Works Progress Administration built approximately 30 galvanized culverts with concrete head-walls throughout Brewton, Escambia County. These culverts have replaced the old wooden structures throughout the city.
  • Malaria Control Concrete Drainage - Brewton AL
    The Works Progress Administration built concrete and riprap, malaria control drainage ditches within the Brewton city limits. The project built approximately 110,000 liner feet of drainage throughout Escambia County. Along Burnt Corn Creek, adjacent to the Brewton city limit, the WPA built 1,500 linear feet of drainage (pictured). The approximate cost of the entire program was $47,000.00.
  • State Highway 12 Improvements - Andalusia AL
    The Works Progress Administration (WPA) built an 18-mile portion of State Highway 12 connecting Andalusia with Brewton. The road was re-graded, widened to 30 feet, and received a 21-foot blacktop surface over a sandy clay base. This was a joint project of the WPA, Alabama State Highway Department, and Escambia County.
  • W.S. Neal High School Addition - Brewton AL
    The Works Progress Administration built a brick addition for the W.S. Neal High School in Brewton, Escambia County. The new addition housed a library, several classrooms, a study room, a conference room, and other school uses. The new facilities expanded the capacity of a previously overcrowded school and allowed for the enrollment of new students. The school is still in service today.
