    Text on a historical marker at the school reads: "In 1880, two years before the City of Gainesville created a public school system for all its children, Island Sparks, a young Mulatto, taught the black children of the city. In 1886, the city built a frame school building on this site for the community's black youth. Originally known as the Gainesville Colored School, the school adopted the name Booker T.   • Brookhaven Town Hall (former) Extension - Patchogue NY
    The old Brookhaven Town Hall in Patchogue is located at the northeast corner of South Ocean Ave. & Baker St. According to Sayville's Suffolk County News in 1939, "The WPA has approved the proposed construction of an extension to the Brookhaven Town Hall at a cost of $86,369, of which the government's share will be $39,338." The building was renovated by Northwell Health and now functions as a Medical Building.
  • Buffalo Memorial Auditorium (demolished) - Buffalo NY
    Buffalo, New York's Minucipal Auditorium was a $2.7 million New Deal-funded project. Ground was broken on November 30, 1939 and the auditorium opened October 14, 1940. Sources differ with regard to the source of the New Deal funding -- an AP article claims it was the PWA while others claim the WPA constructed the building. The Municipal Auditorium was demolished in early 2009.
  • Miller County Courthouse - Texarkana AR
    This Moderne-style of Art Deco courthouse was completed in 1939 by the WPA. The architect was E. C. Seibert, whose firm helped design the U. S. Post Office and Courthouse located in downtown Texarkana in 1931. Seibert was mayor of Texarkana at the time he designed and supervised construction of the Miller County Courthouse.
