    "This school is constructed of buff-colored brick, with darker tan brick around window and entrance openings. The rounded brick walls at the entrance gives the building an Art Deco look. The school was part of a WPA project funded in 193-1940 in the amount of $63,557, which includes a bus barn not shown. The school is listed in the Oklahoma Landmark Inventory database.   • Municipal Roadwork - Stony Brook NY
    According to Medford, New York's Mid-Island Mail, a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project in Stony Brook, New York, consisted of the construction of "9,000 lineal feet of sidewalk, 300 lineal feet of curb and gutter, 650 lineal feet of retaining wall and three catch basins ... on Erland road and Cedar street, Christian avenue and Main street" at a cost of $20,300.

    According to a plaque outside its front entrance, the Napoleon Middle School Gymnasium was constructed in 1939 "from the proceeds of a parish wide bond issue and a P.W.A. grant."
  • Post Office Mural - Claremore OK
    This Section of Fine Arts mural, entitled "Will Rogers," was painted by Randall Davey in 1939. The mural was originally installed in the old (now destroyed) post office in Claremore OK. It has since been restored and is now situated in the Claremore's current main post office.
  • Portland Observatory Restoration - Portland ME
    "Captain Lemuel Moody (1768-1846) ordered construction of this octagonal, 86-foot high tower to serve as a communication station for Portland’s bustling harbor. In 1807, ships entering the harbor could not be seen from the docks of Portland until they rounded the point at Spring Point Ledge. With his powerful telescope, Moody, sea captain turned entrepreneur, identified incoming vessels as far away as 30 miles.     Multiple websites report an unusual WPA project that took place in rural Texas: "Archeological digs employed WPA labor, including excavation at the site of the Odessa meteor crater in Ector County, Texas."   • Washington County Courthouse - Brenham TX
    The current Washington County Courthouse in Brenham, Texas is the fourth courthouse constructed for the county. Architect Travis Broesche designed the 3-1/2 story building in an Art Deco style with a limestone veneer over structural steel. The courthouse was built with Works Progress Administration assistance in 1939 by contractor C.L. Browning, Jr. There is minimal ornamentation except for light stands and cast aluminum eagles at the entries.
  • Quogue Canal Bridge - Quogue NY
    The WPA worked to replace a bridge across the Quogue Canal that was destroyed by a hurricane in 1938. Sayville’s Suffolk County News reported in Nov. 1939 that work was “progressing satisfactorily,” with the “principal concrete of the substructure … completed and steel superstructure work now in progress.”  The destroyed span had crossed the canal at Beach Lane, though Medford's Mid-Island Mail noted that the WPA's new bascule span would also serve to replace a second, previously condemned, span known as the Post bridge.     Sayville's Suffolk County News reported that the construction of "approximately two miles of sidewalks at East Moriches," New York, was a town-sponsored WPA project. The Federal government was expected to contribute about $18,000 toward the project. The project included sidewalk construction along Montauk Highway.
