    The newspaper of what was then the North Dakota Agricultural College, The Spectrum of April 14, 1939 reported: "Student health fees, accumulating over a period of several years, will help finance the building of a $25,000 student health center on the campus, announces President Frank L. Eversull. Plans have been made for the project to be accomplished through WPA assistance.   • Dog-trot Cabin Replica, Witte Museum - San Antonio TX
    This replica of a dog-trot style cabin (two rooms with a breezeway between them, sharing a common roof) on the grounds of the Witte Museum was constructed in 1939 through the efforts of the National Youth Administration. Thirty youth were involved in the project. The dog-trot cabin was very common in Texas and throughout the Southeastern U.S.. The cabin is situated perpendicular to the San Antonio River and features changing exhibits representative of the Texas Frontier in the two rooms.
  • Post Office Mural - Forest Park IL
    The mural “White Fawn” by artist Miriam McKinnie (Hofmeier) was commissioned by the Treasury Department’s Section of Fine Arts in 1939 to be placed at the Forest Park Post Office. The history of the mural began in 1880, when the original White Fawn was built. The original White Fawn, a side-wheeler steamboat, was built by the sons of Ferdinand Haase, Leo G. Haase and William F. Haase, to be used as an excursion boat at the Haase home on the Des Plaines River. Ferdinand Haase, a pioneer settler who came to the area in 1851, founded Haase Park in 1880.   • Milwaukee-Dearborn Subway System - Chicago IL
    In February 1939, bids were collected by the city subway department to begin construction for the first section of the Milwaukee-Dearborn street subway system that would create a 3,322 foot section of the tunnel between Chicago and Haddon avenues ("Dearborn St. Subway"). This system was part of a larger four part plan to build a large scale 50 mile subway system ("Four Stages"). The expansion would extend rapid service by adding additional subways and connecting existing elevated tracks. The project was largely funded by the New Deal's Public Works Administration after plans were completed and agreements were made in 1938....
  • Colorado County Courthouse Improvements - Columbus TX
    The current Colorado County Courthouse was built between 1889 and 1891. In 1939, the Works Progress Administration was involved in excavating a basement for the courthouse for more office space. The WPA also coated the building with a cement mixture to seal the bricks against moisture. The workers applied cream colored paint to the exterior, green to the window frames and white to the dome cornices. The dome was given a coat of aluminum paint in order to make it appear silver, and the clock was repaired.

    "Meeker Junior/Senior High School is located on the east side of the downtown area on Carl Hubbell Street (Hwy 62). This is a large one-story native stone building, constructed in 1939 with an appropriation of $54,963. This is an L-shaped building with intersecting gable roofs. An aerial photo shows the L-shaped configuration of the school. The entrances to the two sections of the building have double aluminum and glass doors, and are recessed beneath a sandstone arch.   • Emma Long Metropolitan Park - Austin TX
    In the early 1930s, the City of Austin acquired about 1008 acres of ash and juniper woodland west of the city with a mile of lake front on Lake Austin. In December 1939, Civilian Conservation Corps Company 1805 arrived at the site to develop the tract of land into a municipal park. The company's primary work included seeding and sodding grass, planting trees, and protecting the bank of the lake from erosion.     "This is a one-story native sandstone building constructed by the WPA in 193-1940 with an appropriation of $29,000. A newer extension has been built at the front, however, a photo from 1987 on the Oklahoma Landmark Inventory database shows the building as it originally stood.     "SCS-10 Camp Cabell was located in Cabell County about two miles east of Milton on bottom land of the Thomas Joseph Berkeley farm, south of US Rt. 60 and between the highway and the railroad tracks...
