The Wallum Lake House was the Sanatorium's main building. It is a large, 3-story brick building, in the Colonial Revival style. The State Sanatorium was originally used as a place for the treatment of tuberculosis patients. It was designed by the Providence architectural firm of Howe & Church during the mid-1930s. This building replaced the Sanatorium's original building, which had opened in 1905. When it opened, Tuberculosis was the leading cause of death in Rhode Island. The fresco entitled “Rural Free Delivery” was painted in 1936 by Conrad A. Albrizio. The old post office is now used by Beareguard Community Action Association.      

The historic Anadarko post office building houses a massive mural depicting the ceremonial and social life of the Plains American Indians. The work consists of 16 variously sized panels of tempera-on-canvas. The Anadarko Post Office was previously also the site of the Kiowa Indian Agency of the Bureau of Indian Affairs and is listed on the National Historic Register. The east side of the building still shows its former name. The 16 panels were designed by the late Stephen Mopope, one of the original Kiowa Five artists. This 5' high black diorite sculpture "The Aztec" was carved by Donal Hord and his team in 1936, a project that took a year to complete.  The one-ton block of stone they sculpted was quarried locally from Escondido. Previously in front of Heppner Hall, it was moved from its original location to make way for the San Diego Trolley Project. It currently stands in the University's Prospective Student Center. Washington Irving STEAM Magnet School (originally Verdugo Road Junior High School) in Los Angeles, CA, was constructed by the Public Works Administration (PWA). The Northeast Los Angeles River Revitalization Area Report describes the school as being built in 1936-37; a PWA plaque on the auditorium, however, bears the date 1939. The original buildings include the main building, a cafeteria, a gymnasium with two bas-relief sculptures near the roof, and an auditorium containing a Federal Art Project (FAP) mural by Ivan Bartlett. On January 28, 1936, consideration was given to building a gym as a WPA project at Newcastle.  On February 2, 1936, the school board committed a matching $3, 800 to build the gym.  Local WPA employee A. C. Duckett was assigned as the project superintendent. The gym was demolished in 1993.  Alumni erected a pavilion in its location, and a monument to the gym, although they incorrectly list the construction date as 1931.  Rocks from the old gym building were preserved in the sidewalk leading to the pavilion.  The 1936 date is consistent with Mr. Wooldridge’s account of the construction, also...

A project grant of $20,000 supported the construction of an Olympic-sized swimming pool west of the gymnasium in July 1936.

“Bishopville High School, located in Lee County, was built as a project in 1936. The school was designed by well-known Bennettsville architect Henry Dudley Harrall. South Carolina's State Stone, Blue Granite (often called Winnsboro Blue Granite), was quarried from the Kincaid-Anderson Quarry and exported all over the east coast to build and decorate scores of buildings. The quarry was the site of Fairfield County's biggest industry until it closed in 1946. Yet the stone was not used for this brick post office built in 1936 by the US Treasury. Winnsboro also boasts the longest running clock in the US!
