  • Post Office (former) - Jacksonville TX
    The Treasury Department funded the construction of the United States Post Office in Jacksonville, Texas. The building continues to serve the community as an event venue, and other private businesses are located there as well, including (as of 2023) a coffee shop. The 1933 Jacksonville Post Office is a significant example of the small town post office designs produced by the U.S. Treasury Department. The first federal building constructed in Cherokee County, it represents the local effects of a substantial new program of public building construction undertaken by the federal government.   • Grand Canyon Village Improvements - Grand Canyon Village AZ
    The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was extremely active in Grand Canyon National Park throughout the New Deal. The CCC enrollees worked under the direction of the National Park Service (NPS) and some of the projects were funded by the Public Works Administration (PWA).  The first CCC camp was established on the South Rim, where Company 819 started working on improvements to the facilities around Grand Canyon Village, the main visitor center for the park, c. 1933-1937.   • School Grounds Improvements - Canaan ME
    The Civil Works Administration (CWA) carried out improvements on the ground so fthe Grammar School in Canaan ME. According to a Report of Superintendent of Schools, “One of the very pleasing innovations of the past year was the grading of the school grounds at both the grammar and primary schools. I wish to extend personally my thanks and appreciation to Mr. Horace Bean for his fine spirit of cooperation in this enterprise. He, personally aided in every way, and only through his keen interest and participation in the project would it have been possible to use the CWA funds for this work....
  • Flood Mitigation - Mercer ME
    Mercer ME, a small town of only 408 residents at the 1930 Census, received federal help for relief work, which included flood mitigation. Contributions from the Works Progress Administration (WPA), the Public Works Administration (PWA), and the Civil Works Administration (CWA) are mentioned in the 1936 Town Report. The Report lists following details about the relief work and flood control efforts carried out in 1936: Two people are listed in connection with a 1933 CWA project. Eighteen people and three companies are listed in connection with repairs after the 1936 flood. "Flood Project, WPA, Beech Hill Towns Portion $1,171.94."

    According to town reports, needed repairs were conducted on the former school system of Searsport by CWA, FERA, & WPA. Of the school houses mentioned, only one on Mt. Ephraim St. survives as an apartment building. 1933 "There were three projects of grading school grounds entered under the C. W. A. which the Selectmen have engineered. This work will certainly improve the looks of the buildings and also make it possible for the children to play on the school grounds, instead of in the street.   • Woodland Park Zoo Improvements - Seattle WA
    The Civil Works Administration (CWA) and the Works Progress Administration (WPA) provided funding and labor for numerous improvement projects at Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo during the New Deal period. The initial projects were completed in 1933. In the following years, dozens of additional projects resulted in significant upgrades to the zoo's infrastructure and animal quarters. Work on the zoo continued until late 1941, when the United States entered World War II. The first New Deal projects at the zoo were completed through the CWA in 1933 and 1934.   • CCC Camp F-5 (Granite Flat Campground) - Mount Timpanogos UT
    The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) established Camp F-5 in Timpanogos Cave National Monument in the summer of 1933. Company 940 was sent there from training at Fort Douglas, with its 200-man contingent including both young enrollees and a large complement of "experienced men" from Salt Lake City. During summer 1933 and through the winter of 1933-34 (Baldridge, p. 164), the CCC made many improvements to the national monument.
