Description
The Works Progress Administration (WPA) constructed sidewalks all over Prescott AZ, including around Courthouse Plaza. According to the WPA stamp in the photograph, the sidewalk was part of Project No. 65-2-105 in 1936.
Unfortunately, the entire plaza has been renovated and the stamp shown here has disappeared — despite the photographer’s happiness on seeing “that such things are preserved.”

The citizens of South Washington Ave 309 S Washington Ave
Prescott Arizona 86303 (Latitude. 34.5378
Longitude. -112.4604) wish to add to your WPA database our sidewalks that hard-working men and women built over 80 years ago! These sidewalks with a few exceptions where tree roots cracked the squares are in remarkably good shape and we want to keep it that way! The City of Prescott wants to destroy the existing sidewalk and replace it with a new one. We like it the way it is! Please add this to your database and write a letter to the City Mayor and Manager to keep as much as the original as possible!
