Description

The Roosevelt Field House, at the north end of Roosevelt Park in Piqua, Ohio, was constructed as a New Deal project with funds from the Public Works Administration (PWA).

Piqua Daily Call, Sept. 12, 1935: “Work of laying brick for the walls of the new field house at Roosevelt Park was scheduled to start sometime this week, according to Carl Anderson, of the Arm of H. L. and C. P. Anderson, general contractors of Dayton, constructing the new PWA project. Practically all steel work has been completed on the recreation hall, Contractor Anderson Indicated and everything was nearly ready for the start of brick work. The exterior brick will be of a light mottled color being purchased from the Beckert Brothers company of this city while the interior walls will be of a light colored tile being purchased from the Root Coal and Lumber company, also of this city. A crew of 17 men is at work on the field house under Contractor Anderson, and were busy yesterday afternoon completing certain grading … in work as well as foundation and steel construction on the new athletic building. All laborers, skilled and otherwise, are working under PWA regulations relative to hours and wage rates. According to the contract schedule, the building will be completed and ready for use sometime early In December.”
