The main post office in Rutherford, New Jersey was constructed with federal funds. The building, which opened for business in 1936, is still in use today.

The Rutherford Post Office located at 156 Park Ave received a 3/31/1988 Opinion of Eligibility for inclusion on the NJ State Register of Historic Places as ID# 2965. This post office is part of a three element plaza that includes Rutherford’s 1920 WWI Monument on the National Register of Historic Places as ID# 4601(NR Reference #: 13000201) and the 1958 Rutherford Public Library. All three architectural structures were designed by Rutherford architect Edgar Irving Williams FAIA who lived in Rutherford all his life along with his brother, the poet, Dr William Carlos Williams.
