Post Office Murals – Oak Park IL

Description

“J. Theodore Johnson is best known for the four murals he created for the Oak Park post office in Chicago” (http://americanart.si.edu). The murals were funded by the Treasury Section of Fine Arts in 1939. Each depicts a historically significant moment in the area’s history.

  1. We visited this post office on August 15, 2022. This is a beautiful building, but the murals could be cleaned – they were pretty dirty. There is a new postmaster who is in the process of “cleaning up” this building.
