The federal Works Progress Administration (WPA) constructed a playground / recreational center in Palmyra, New Jersey ca. 1936. The exact location or status of the facility is unknown to Living New Deal.

In all likelihood, this is the park bounded by Broad Street, Spring Garden Street, Walnut Street, and Park Avenue. The baseball field there is now named Lena Blackbourne Memorial Field, after the major league player and coach who discovered the rubbing mud now used by all teams. The mud can be found at a location in Palmyra, known only to the persons who package the mud every year for major league baseball. My father told me that the WPA did help clear the area at the park where streets were laid out for future development.
