Description
The Public Works Administration funded the construction of facilities for the Pine Crest Sanitarium, Beckley, Raleigh County. Project W. Va.-1126-DS. Today the facility is in service and operates as the Jackie Withrow Hospital.
A market at the hospital site reads:
“Established in 1927 by act of the Legislature to provide additional facilities for sufferers from tuberculosis. Opened to the public in 1930. Capacity increased, 1938. Early treatment of the disease is emphasized. Altitude 2350 feet.”
