Description

“Now a standard Nashville tradition, Iroquois Steeplechase traces roots back to 1936, when Marcellus Frost suggested a racecourse to take over a piece of Warner Parks.

Mason Houghland, master of the Hillsboro Hounds, along with foxhunter Con. Thompson Ball, and President Franklin Roosevelt confidant Harry Hopkins created the course in response, as a parks improvement project of the Works Progress Administration.

The race has continued each year since, except in 1945 due to World War II.”   (https://www.tennessean.com)
