Description

The Works Progress Administration (WPA) built the Orogrande School in Orogrande NM. The structure served as a grade school from 1935-1958, a polling location from 1935 to 1985, and a community center from 1971 to present.

    My grandfather helped build this school. His name was Samuel Web Lentz. His family resided in Tularosa. N.M. and my Grandmother Annie Dora Cooper Lentz came to Tularosa in a covered wagon with her younger sister, her father and uncle in the late 1800s. Her father and uncle had a gold mine. claim in the San Andreas mtns. Her children settled and/or remained in Tularosa, Alamogordo, and El Paso.
