“The Long Creek High School Gymnasium was one of eight facilities of its general type constructed in Mecklenburg County under the arrangements outlined above, the others being at the high schools then in the local school districts of Huntersville, Paw Creek, Pineville, Sharon, Oakhurst, Berryhill, and Bain. Only the Long Creek Gymnasium survives from this initial round of construction.” (cmhpf.org)

I attended Paw Creek school and graduated in 1951. I drove School bus for 2 years and remember th gymnasium well. My brother and I were on the basketball team. He played center but I seldom got into a game.

After 2 years of college I went into naval flight training in Pensacola, Fla. While returning home every few weeks I met my future wife who was teaching 4th grade. After finishing flight training and earning my wings of gold and commission as an Ensign we were married and had 3 boys. I recently lost my wife of 67 years due to dementia and complications from COVID at the age of 90.j

What fond memories of attending Paw Creek and meeting my wife when she first started teaching there.
